Either My Cat Is Scooping His Own Litter Box.. Or Its A Ghost...

i am always scooping the litter box.. even though i have an automatic catbox its crappy and doesnt get everything.. my white cat xavey will have a hissy fit if the box isnt completely scooped all the time.. my black cat gideon thinks the more crap the better.. (he is bizarre and likes to be around his own poop.. hangout in bathrooms.. etc.. we think he slept in the litter box when he was born too much before we got him and he thinks its conforting) anyways i went into there to check the box and the scoop was already in the cat box sitting there with the handle on the outside and the scoop end in the litter.. now i am the only one that scoops.. i always tuck the scoop in between the box and the privacy tent to where you have to grab and pull it out a certain way to get it.. there is no way unless my cats learned out to lift and use a scoop that is the size of them.. or my dog did it.. and there are no teeth marks.. and well she likes to scoop in her own "yummy ooohh treats" kind of way so that leaves a ghost.. or can you guys think of how this happened?? im open to any ideas lol
