People usually greet you with "How are you doing"? And they end or depart with "Have a good day". Do you use these phrases? If so, do you really mean them are you just using them out of habit. Do you really care?

I'm pretty much a caring person! So when I greet someone it's pretty much genuine! I really want to know how a person is doing, I also never tell a person I'm doing ok when I'm not. I usually tell them I'm decent or always could be better! Taripre$

Well,I believe that it is just people's habit to use these phrases to greet someone who they meet.In our city, when people meet each other, they always greet each other, saying that have you had your meal. They don't really want to know the answer,it is just a habit.I think it is the same with how are you doing.

Hi chevee! Honestly, Nope! As you said they are just mere greetings and most of the time I don't mean them if they are just said to aquaintences. If they are said to people that are friends the yes I do mean it. But, in general when you see someone you know that is what you say even though in most cases you really couldn't care less. I know it sounds crass, but it is the truth and I hate to lie. It's merely said out of habit and politeness. I think we say these things without evening thinking because we have been programmed to do so. If I truly thought about it I don't know if I would say them.

I usually just say "Hello" if I speak first; but if someone says, "Hello, how are you?" to me I usually say, "Fine (no matter what my condition), thank you, how are you?" and I really don't want to know the answer.

Hello Chevee. I used to manage a café and I was so used to saying these. To be honest, a lot of it were "automatically said' once I hear someone walk in but with the regulars, I usually mean it because I've already formed some kind of camaraderie with them. But whenever I asked loved ones how they're doing, I mean it as well as telling them that I hope they have a good day and all those good thoughts.

I think I don't care too much. If they say that they are not doing well, I will worry about them. But most of the time, they will tell me they are doing well though it may not be the truth

What is the point of asking how they are if you really do not care? If I ask them it is because I want to know. As for have a good day, I do often use that phrase, usually to people I see often and I am hopeful that they will have a good day

I tend not to say those phrases as a matter of course, i will only ask someone how they are if i am interested in the answer!! I tend not to say have a nice day to people that i don't know either, like when shop assistants say it, i find that a it irritating because i just think " why do you care what my day is like, you don't know me!!!" so the whole thing is a bit false!!! Not that i am miserable i do ask people how they are doing and say have a nice day, but only when it's genuine, falseness really gets on my nerves!!! xxxx

Not every time I say it. Sometimes its only a phrase, which we use so often we dont even think of it anymore. 'How are you doing' is almost the next 'hello' just a greeting and you dont even expect for people to answer. Im sure we all have come across some who ask you that and dont even wait for your answer just continue talking. But then again every 'how are you doing' gets good or ok and I dont mean that either. Of course sometimes I do wanna know how someone is doing and the question is genuine
