It's really hard to choose between a friend and girlfriend/boyfriend. I feel that it matters how long you have known the friend and how long you have been with your partner. I believe if it's between a life long friend and a girlfriend/boyfriend you have just met, they shouldn't be able to ruin your friendship. But on the other hand, if you have been with your lover for a while, and a friend that you haven't known for that long interfere, you should drop the friend. This situation gets really difficult if it is between say your life best friend and your wife/husband, but if I would have to choose, I would choose you wife/husband/long time lover because they are the ones that you will share your life with and if a friend doesn't understand that, they probably wasn't a good friend in the first place.

I think that a lover who asks you to give up a friend for them is out of line, unless the friend is a former lover or a criminal or something. I wouldn't stay with somebody who would ask something like that of me.
