John McCain's election campaign last night suffered the body blow which Republicans had been bracing themselves for when his vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, was found to have abused her powers in pursuit of a personal feud with her former brother-in-law. At the end of the 10-week investigation into the so-called Troopergate affair, Palin was found to have breached the ethics rules which govern her conduct as governor of Alaska. For the full article check out: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/oct/11/uselections2008-johnmccain2 Is this the final blow for the McCain campaign? Or do you think they can come out of this? Cheers! Ram

Yes, I think it very well might be. There's still almost a month til the election, but I don't know if they can recover during that time. I talked to my dad tonight, and he is very conservative, yet he thinks they have dug themselves into a hole. He is not really a Palin fan, nor I am, however, he did say that she has accomplished many great things in her life. I am inclined to agree, she has accomplished much more than many people ever will. But is she vice president material? That's the big question. I myself tend to lean to the left, and this election won't be any different. Future elections however, are up for grabs. :)

In fact, ever since she was selected by McCain, that is the question most people are asking... Is She VP material? Cheers! Ram

My observation is based on the willingness of the candidates to address the various questions being raised of them during this presidential campaign. Palin has not addressed any issue directly and has just been on a personal attack on Obama, while Obama and McCain both have tried to address key issues. Biden has also addressed key foreign affairs issues. So if you look at the contributions at the campaign, this seems to be the case... Cheers! Ram

im surprised that the "powers that be" on the republican side, didnt find a way to make this investigation disappear. i truly am. and even more surprised that ALL of the commitee involved (eight Republicans and four Democrats, did not endorse the report, but voted unanimously to release it) voted to have the info released. im impressed that even the republicans among them thought it important enough for the public to know..and then voted to have that come about. doesnt say much about Palin does it? that EVEN her party members agreed lol! i do not like that woman...cant really put a finger on why, more like a feeling. you know how when you first meet someone and they are trying SO HARD to be nice, and likeable and compliment you up the wazoo? i call it "dripping honey". thats exactly what she makes me think of when i hear her "talking" to the "joe six-packs and hockey moms" out there. on the other hand i dont like Obama either..shoot, im stuck on the damn fence and dont know what im gonna do!!

I think the approach taken by Palin of attacking Obama's personality rather than the issues that is taking down the economy is the one that is undoing the Republican party. It is more true now, when the common man is beginning to feel the pinch of the slowdown that this question seems to have more weightage than any other thing in this campaign. And Palin does not seem to be addressing these issues... But as mentioned in the discussion above, She has achieved a lot in a short career and that cannot be by chance... but again whether she is VP material is a completely different ball game... Cheers! It's a crock! The Democrat run "investigation" "finds" she abused her power, and the are so sure about it they don't even recommend a criminal investigation, or any other further action? You have to ask yourself, what was the point of the investigation if they don't see any reason to act on the results?

Parated, I read on the Anchorage Daily News website that the state legislature does not have the authority to charge and try people. Any further legal or disciplinary action would come from the Attorney General's office or the state Personnel Board, who are conducting their own investigation.
