Can you tell when a person is lying just by looking at his/her eyes?

I, for one, would not agree that when a person has shifty eyes he/she is a liar. I always tell the truth, but even when I do, my eyes could be shifting from one space to another. I don't think someone who looks at you straight and says something is always telling the truth. What about you? Is this applicable to you? Are there different ways to know if someone is lying?

I dont think its always possible to say whether a person is lying or not by looking at his/her eyes cause a person may be real good at telling lies and then his/her eyes will give away nothing..and some truth are not comfortable or may be embarrasing then we may not be able to look at somebody's eyes and say the truth...but its still truth and not a lie.. Have a nice day!

If you get to see a person daily, you will understand when that person is lying - you will sense a shade of discomfort in his/her face unless he is very clever or groomed to tell a lie.

You're right, Jenaisle. It's not necessarily the eyes. Some people are naturally shy, and they don't look at others in the eyes. If you know a person well enough, you will be able to detect the slight signs that he or she display when telling a lie. One of my colleagues, will stutter and tried to cover up with some explanation or other. She is usually fluent; so we know when she is lying. Or she will keep harping on an issue, like trying to convince you that she is telling the truth. That is when I know she's not telling the whole truth.

I think there are different ways to tell when people are lying. Yep true liars can look you straight in the eyes and lie, no problem. Body language and track records are both important when deciding if someone is lying to you!

it depends on how well you know the person and how quickly can you sense if a person is lying or not. some can be good in hiding their true identity. just be careful and be attentive to signs of lies
