Locally, I have purchased one item from e-bay, and I have to say I had a good buy! The person who sells them was nice actually.

I have purchased many items using ebay and have had a good experience with the site and sellers so far. I don't think I would purchase a higher end item such as a laptop on ebay though, I believe it would be better to go into a computer store and get one there. Then you can also purchase a warranty, etc.

Hi, I've sold hundred of item on ebay before with 100% rating. Have bought dozen times too. So far I have been let down once but was fixed by seller. Since you're buying something of higher value I'd say you think twice about it. High price electronics is the last thing I would buy thru ebay. Warranty issues is something to look at there. Also buy shipping insurance too. Only buy from merchants with 99% or higher rating (well, that's my rule...). Goodluck, hope you get a great deal!!!

how would you know if their ratings are for real and not a joke? i mean a person could just ask someone to give them positive feedbacks and scam some buyers right? thanks for the advise.

Nope. He cannot just ask anyone to post a feedback for him. Winning bidders of a seller's auction only has the access to give a feedback. That system is fool proof. So feedbacks left are done by unique individuals. You cannot even have somebody bid on your items all the time 'coz ebay track those and cheating is suspected. You can not even cheat ebay by bidding on your auctions using a different account. Bottom line to do that in a mass scale is easy for ebay to track and a person also spends alot on auction fees if he does that. So it's a lose-lose situation for cheaters. Hope this helps...
