Grandson Gabe in Halloween Costume - Halloween 2007 My grandson dressed as a pumpkin

I went shopping this weekend and was shocked at the cost of the Halloween costumes. When my children were little I made many of their costumes but as my grandsons arrived I was not feeling creative and began buying their costumes. Suddenly it appears that their costumes have become my responsibility. I gritted my teeth and bought each one their costumes this week because the creative bug has not been biting me. One is going to be a dinosaur and the other is iron man. These boys are just preschoolers yet their costumes cost $35.00 each. My sixteen year old also wanted one but hers was even more money $50.00. This is so ridiculous. Last year I bought costumes but the prices weren't nearly as high.

Walmart usually sells them for like $20, that's where I go if I have to buy it. I'm really not creative and don't have a sewing machine, so usually I buy them, or at least buy pieces for them.

I have done both but usually just buy them. Call it lazy or I'd rather say I'm really too busy with other things (we homeschool too). I haven't bought them yet this year. My girls are 9 and 4 and yes, they are way way too expensive. This year we are going camping for Halloween at a campground that has a lot of stuff going on including trick or treating. So their costumes this year will have to be conducive to camping.

When I was a kid, my mother always made my costume. She did a great job and as a result, we won many contests. As a parent myself, I do a bit of both. I make some of my childrens costumes, and I also buy some. I just depends on what my kids want to dress up as this year. I really enjoy making costumes for my kids, it helps me get into the Halloween spirit.
