Few years back..when cell phone were not so common, I used to carry a digital diary. It helped me in remembering my all assignments, and all the phone numbers. I had a habit of remembering phone numbers, but now, when we are so used to cell phones, I don't remember any phone numbers. This is due to the directory we use in cell phones..which normally shows the names, we dial it easily without remembering...But , once I lost my cell and had to face a lot of problems..have you faced such problems? please share...

I am facing this very problem right now. I can't find my cell phone and there are certain friends that I do not know their number. I know the first few digits but that's all. It is very frustrating.

Modern technology has caused mankind to become so laid back and lazy in many manners. Using things like cell phones for storing numbers we usually remember is just the start. I do not, nor want, a cell phone for many reasons. I am still the type that has a regular phone book with me for recalling needed numbers. I do have OnStar with a phone built in in my car with stored phone numbers on voice recogniton though only. I seldom forget a phone number to this day so I usually don't have this problem. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

The Phone book on your cell phone can be saved by your service provider...if you have a cell with advanced features..I hope I made it clear...

I didn't lose my cellphone, what was lost was my sim card and all my friends, family and important emergency numbers are stored in there. I had such difficulty retreaving all numbers back. I can't even remember my own number. Maybe it is true that we have become so dependent on our cellphones that we don't try to remember all these numbers. So, now what i do is have them all written on my address book aside from my phone book on the cell.

That is good. I also store my friends numbers on the phone itself so if ever i lose my sim card i can easily retrieve them because they are stored in the phone itself.

Hello , Sweetie, I have faced this in past...I have two option.. 1 ) Now a days , the SIM card ( new connection ) is cheap , and I keep an extra sim with important numbers saved... 2 ) The service provider , gives the user the option of saving phone book ,for certain amount ..in my country..But , you must have an expencive cell phone with advanced features.. And the last one is having a copy on your computer...I don't do that..as I am not so good in soft wares..

I have more than 3 phone numbers that I remember but you are right, I am using my cell as a phone directory and that is not a good thing. I lost once my cell and all that info went with it. It took me a long time to recover that information btw.

I know exactly what you mean! I myself can remember phone numbers back when I was five! Yet, when my phone decided to no longer function, I was lost. I had been using the names and not looking or dialing the numbers. Therefore, I had not remembered people's numbers. Not even their area codes! Yikes! Even now, months later, I get a few texts whereas I have to reply, "Who is this?". Guess it hurts some people's feelings but, what else can I do?

"Who is this?"...yes this question does really hurts...but then..after losing all that numbers...using new technology...gives us no other OPTION....

I really don't like to hurt people. But then again, if I really mattered, why wait five months to get ahold of me??? LOL

I guess you're not the only one facing this problem. I too could remember a lot of number. But that's all in the past. I think the best thing to do is to write down the numbers like in the past. This way we have everybody's numbers with us at any time.

You are right...dear.. But once we get used to new technology , we get a bit lazy...and so I am going through a hard time...JUST IMAGINE I GET A MESSAGE, AND CAN'T MAKE OUT WHO IS THE SENDER.THEN , I ASK" WHO IS THIS"

Yes Mate, I have faced such problems earlier. One cell phone unit with me got out of order just some months back and I had to miss hundreds of numbers as the numbers were loaded with the phone book of that receiver. Now, with the new receiver, I record many useful numbers as per the old method of writing in a pocket notebook. That method I think is the best stand by method of recording phone numbers.. Thanks for this nice discussion!

writing down is the best...at least when you need a certain number..you can get it , dial it..and then save it on cell for future use...thanks for your support

I think it is same for all. now as the cell phones save all the numbers, we do not care to remember. earlier i also remembered many. But now i remember less. but it will definitely be tough.

That's one my worries as well. In my case, I just memorize the phone numbers of the important people in my phonebook. Thanks to my memory for that. Also, I keep a list of some numbers on my computer so I would remember them in times of emergency.

That's the trouble with cellphones. We tend to be completely dependent on them that we don't even bother to cary a separate phone book to keep important phone numbers. It therefore gives us a hard time when we lose our cellphone which actually happened not just to you but to me and to a lot of other people. For two times I lost my cellphone, and on both occassions, I was left helpless because I did not keep any phonebooks with me. Now again, I still have not kept a separate phonebook. I never learn my lesson! Ha!ha!ha!

Hii Intimate...... even I had digital diary with me.... when I change myself to use mobile phones..... i thought that the digital diary is waste when compared to mobile phones....... I used to keep an alarm in cell phone for all of my assignments..... one day I went to a hotel there I forget my cell phone and came to office..... then I pretend to take my cell phone to switch on my computer (new computer... and password yet to remember), I find that my cell phone was lost..... I don't know what to do..... then I got a call from my security saying that my cell phone was in the hotel where I used to have lunch daily........ then I got relieved from my tension........ if I would have gone to a new hotel... probably My cell phone would have be missed........

I know exactly what you mean. Since I have the numbers programmed in on my cell phone I don't know what they are. I just hit the name of the person and it calls them. If I lost my cell phone I wouldn't know what anybody's number was except for my mom and hubby. Luckily, I haven't ever lost it thank goodness. I need to write everyone's number down in case that did happen and I needed to call them.
