When you are in the underground scene you have more freedom in making your music. You just don't care if people buy your music or not. You're just there to make music. It's different when you in the mainstream. You are now bound to make more commercial success than make more musical statements. You tend to do music by your fan choice and in the mean time you have to earn more money. Underground and mainstream both had their own unwritten rules. I've seen bands from the underground scene trying to make it big in the mainstream but it becomes more disastrous than before.

I have alot of respect for underground artists. I have several friends who do their own music, promotions and so forth. There is nothin wrong with mainstream,I just thing that and this is my opinion alot of underground artists remember why they play music.Because they love music.

I don't really care if the artist is mainstream or underground, it makes no difference to me, music is music and if it sounds good to my ears I will listen to it, and if it doesn't then I don't have to listen to it haha. I find myself listening to artists that have made it big but are not on top really anymore (I don't really like that pop stuff on the radio), because I am more exposed to that music at home, but I won't shun the more underground artists. It's common that I ask someone if they know some of my favorite artists, they say no, but then they recall hearing their music when I mention what songs they wrote. I like when artists music is appreciated, though they do not have super-stardom like Rihanna etc.

In my opinion, mainstream is music that is popular to mass groups, like cookie cutter artists, conformed and available to the general public. An example pop music. Underground is music that is alot less known, unconformed, sometimes non profit and usual anti corporate. You will probably rarely if ever see it on something like MTV. An example ghetto metal.
