Would you give a best response to somebody you totally disagree with?

Come on, be honest. If you had a discussion and somebody responded with a viewpoint that you totally disagreed with, but their response was well thought out, well worded, maybe even supported by quotes or links to sites that supported it, would you give a best response to them even if you disagreed?

I find many response where some are to my thought and some are in different way..its people mind and it varies to one to the other. So thou its different from my views still if i feel it is the better way to work out as well then i will provide best response

I wonder, does it happen often though?

Whenever I create a discussion I used to wait until I had received ten or more responses before I would give a best response. And yes, even though I would disagree with someone I would still give them a best response if I feel their participation in my discussion warranted this! I only give best responses to those that have written indepth responses i.e more that three or four lines. I take the quality of the information into account as well. Sometimes it's difficult though as you might only get one person responding to your discussion in which case I would give this person a best response! Andrew

I would too but if I got two really good responses, one of which agreed with me and one that didn't, I would probably give it to the one who agreed. My bias. If there's only one it's easy!

I think I would not give a best response to someone i toltally disagreed with. I think I would try to find a person that I agree with to give a best response to. I guess that I would try to consider all opinions but you can give a best response to whomever you would like. That is what I like to do.

Honestly, I think it would have to be a REALLY well thought out, well worded response AND the other responses would have to be weak, before I'd give one to somebody I totally agreed with.

Yes. I like to hear opposing arguments. If their argument makes me think or allows me to see it differently, I could definitely give someone BR.

Why, not? If they can make you think or allow you to see it differently, it really must have been a good response!

i would give a best response to someone who disagreed with my opinion. as long as they have reasons to back up their argument (because its basically like an online debate) and their response was well thought out like you said. i have no problem with that, there are a variety of opinions from everyone and all opinions welcome :)

Yes I would give someone who articulates his opinion with valid and reasonable arguments even if I don't agree with him. I have not problem with that.

Actually if they can express themselves and discuss the topic in a mature way without resorting to name calling and attacking, I could. I think that there's alot to be said for someone that can discuss a topic, even disagree on it, in a mature way. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

If it is truly the best response, then yes, I would reward it with a "best response" even if I didn't agree with their point of view. However, if there are two equally good responses I'm considering giving a best response to and one shares the same viewpoint as me and the other was an opposing viewpoint, then I would probably go with the response I agreed with.

well dear dawn it is rather typical and will depend , normally what we like should be something which is in agreement with our thinking line!! and something we disagree with we may not like and unable to hold as the best!! so i think i may not mark it as the best response if i do not agree with what is said!!

It would have to be a really GOOD response for me to give it a BR when I disagree with it!

This is great question I think. I am not sure if I will mark this answer as the best, it depends on my mood and also on the way the respond was written. Was it written friendly way or just arrogantly although reasonable? In the case it was friendly post thought different point of view I do not agree with I would probably have no problem to mark this answer as best. I do not feel offended when I hear or read other point of view but I dislike arrogant behavior.

Yep I agree with you. The attitude (or perceived attitude) is going to have a lot to do with how the response is received!

I would like to think that I would, but I think it would depend on the discussion. If the opposing view was out right offensive or went completely against something I felt strongly about then it wouldn't matter how articulate they were. But if someone with an opposing view really made me think or actually made me change my opinion I would absolutely give them best reponse.

I wouldn't give it to somebody who was nasty or offensive either!
