Did you ever have a discussion that just Bombed?

Have you ever started a discussion and thought that it was a pretty good topic. And you thought that you made it sound pretty interesting just to have it bomb? It either had zero responses or very few responses? What was the discussion about? How did you handle it?

I usually only post things that are important to me so it is dissapointing when they don't get many responses. I don't ust come here to make money (obviously) and I actually enjoy the communication with others. But, I just try to chalk it up to a fluke. There are tons of topics added every second so I figure mine sometimes gets lost in the shuffle and that makes me feel better thinking that people aren't intentionally trying to ignore me or think I'm totally boring! :-)

Sometimes I think that maybe they might be interested in some topics but maybe they just don't come across them. It doesn't necessarily mean that you're boring, maybe they just can't find the topic. I don't know but that's my guess. At least it makes me feel better lol.

I've had a few. One was about my husband and his mangled expressions such as "ear muffins" or "bouldering elephant". I PM'd a friend that there was a 'best response' waiting to be had so that I could get it off my unresolved list!

Many, many time Louise and especially when I first joined. It can be so hit and miss on this site when it comes to choosing topics to post and on many occasions we think we have come up with something appealing and then it crashes and burns. And then at the opposite end of the spectrum we whack up something that we didn't out much time or thought into at all and it attracts mass attention! Go figure?? Whatever the formula is for mass response consistency, I have certainly never worked it out..... All I can do really is keep on keeping on and as long as I get at least one response then I am happy these days.

I don't start discussions very often and always hope to get responses. But I have a few that still have zero responses after a long time. The only thing that bothers me about it is that they are stuck in my unresolved tab and I can't get rid of them. Otherwise, I don't really care if no one wants to respond. Either I posted on a "bad" day for the topic or it just wasn't interesting to the people who were online at that time. Discussions get pushed along pretty quickly on here and once they are beyond the first few pages it is less likely for them to be seen by anyone at all, let alone to get responses.

My very first discussion was asking if there were other myLotters who enjoy Anthony Bourdain. Apparently, there is only one other user who does. Maybe my expectations are lower but I'm okay if I only get one response. I do like to have had more (bring them on, myLotters!) but so far (knock on wood), I've always had someone reply to all of my discussions and I'm thankful for that. I just resolve that discussion after a week and move on.

I just go "oh well," and keep going. Since I don't care what other people think of my posts, if i write something that I did or saw or whatever, if nobody else likes it - well, I can only write about what I know.

People do posts requesting people respond to posts that don't have any responces so they can resolve them. They have even asked if people don't have any responses so they can respond to them.

Yes I have had a couple that have had zero responses, but guess no one was interested it that topic. I try to look at the tab no responses to help people out. But, even then I look foe ones that interest me.

The topic I find most frustrating that never got any response was about jigsaw puzzles. I found a topic on it so figured that people would respond...why would there be a topic if no one was interested? LOL Well, I guess they weren't. Then, later I think I found out I put it under a topic called "Puzzles" rather than "Jigsaw Puzzles". So maybe everyone in that interest were thinking other kinds of puzzles. Who knows?

Hi Louise, Yes I have had a fair few, one I think was asking people which they prefered an XBox, Wii or Playstation and I think I got 2 responses, there have been others too but I just move on. In fact I answered one yesterday that I thought was a very interesting topic, it was a week old and I was the only response. I guess if people miss it it happens eh! Huggles. Ellie :D

That is true, if they miss it and it does not make it back up to the top and they forget where they seen it at.

I have had a few like that with only 1 or 2 responses. They are mainly on serious topics like US politics, which I do not really understand. I cannot really give a best response if you do not have enough responses either. I wrote the discussions because they were about things that I really wanted to know so I was a bit disappointed that I did not get a good response to them.

Personally I try to avoid all political discussions because they tend to get too heated and emotional. In addition, it tends to bring lower ratings and more negative ratings once you do respond because of the people who rate negative based on opinion which I think should not happen, but oh well, it does. I have responded to a few political discussions and have started at least one. I have regretted doing so for the most part and now am not responding to any political discussions. Maybe others are not responding for the same reasons.

It's hard to avoid showing my opinion with the avatar I have. I don't generally get involved in discussions from the other side because I find they are rarely interested in other opinions. I haven't seen to many folks from the opposing views get involved in discussions from my side either. The one exception at my lot seems to be religion. It always amazes me how desperate Atheists are to spread their religion when they claim not to have one. As for negative ratings I know my side isn't out to hurt others and wouldn't rate people badly unless they seemed abusive on another persons thread. As for the opposition, they have some folks that happily do whatever they can to hurt others but they are heavily outnumbered and don't worry me. If I spent all my time avoiding things that could bring trouble i would park myself in a darkened apartment in front of the TV and go out only at night to 24 hour stores to do my shopping when I had almost no one I needed to talk to. I would own only junk so that no one would want to steal it and anything I had of actual value would be well hidden and no one would know I have it. What kind of life would that be? I believe what I believe and say what I say. If folks don't agree that's fine as long as they don't try to shove their opinion down my throat in opposition to recorded or proven facts. Those who will act childishly because of their opinion will never thrive as a result of their actions and the damage they may do is temporary and uninteresting. I'd rather enjoy myself than spend time worrying about what others think of what I write. It's a lot easier just to let my thoughts and feelings flow than to try and filter them for an audience. if you ever wondered why some politicians hem and haw and pause a lot it's because they are catering their answers to the audience. the ones who speak their mind may meet with more disagreement but they are better respected and referred to as "great communicators."

I don't worry about it because obviously this was just not a topic that was of interest at the time. That doesn't mean it would not be hot some other time. Just keep thinking. New stuff will come to you. I have a couple of topics right now that seem to have raised alot of discussion: What do you when you REALLY don't like the girl your son is living with? Also: As a woman should you cut your hair short when you are past 40?

Yes I have a topic about charity and it was left unanswered and then you take a light topic such as "I do skip long posts" and I get 126 posts. It was a rather unexpected response. Sometimes life is unpredictable. © ronaldinu 2008

Yes I have and most are discussions on either computer help I need or help with a site..I think that either my friends who are good with these topics either miss it or I stumped them and they don't want to reply.. Then some of my first discussion I posted had to do with music and some bands that obviously no one had heard of, so no replies there either..

hi louiseknittel yes I have several that had like six or seven responses and yet I thought they were good topics. One was on diabetes, and one on hearing noises in the house while alone at night. neither one did very well at all.I thought the one on diabetes might interest both non and diabetic people but sadly it really bombed.just sat there and gathered dust.lol lol lol.

lol that's pretty much all of my discussion topics (well there are some where it's understandable that I didn't get many responses). I only got one response out of all of them that I've made. It's kind of discouraging, especially when there are some topics about really trivial things that get so many responses (like that discussion on whether you pick your buggers and eat them lol) but I don't really stress about it. I just hope that one day I'll get some more responses, even though the more time that passes the less likely I feel anyone will respond.
