What was the best custom that you ever had for Halloween? Was it bought or homemade?

I borrowed a dog costume a few years ago to go to a house party. It was absolutely hilarious. Once in the house, I was on all 4's and walked around until my knees couldn't take it any longer. I also made a Monopoly board for our girls and they each wore the costume over a period of a couple of years. The hat part of the costume had dice painted on it and was made with a Tampax box. I still have it in our garage.

At this same party there was a post in the center of their basement. Ofcourse I had to hike my leg! People were laughing hysterically.

My mom and I constructed a Vulcan costume for me the year Star Trek started. I pulled my hair back, drew on the slanted eyebrows, made pointed ears, used glitter nail polish to make the "A" emblem for the sweatshirt. People didn't always know what I was, but they all commented that it was a good costume. Mind you, they didn't recognize that I was a Vulcan or Spock because the show had only been on a few weeks at that point.

The funniest (or maybe the stupidest) was probably the time I dressed up as my husband. My favorite was the Lt. Uhura (Star Trek) costume. Too bad I can't fit into it any more. :-(

My mother always used to make Parkin, which is a sort of ginger cake made with dark brown sugar and black treacle. We also made toffee apples. For eating round the fire.

The best costume I ever had would have to be a witch. I'm a witch every year. I've been a witch for my whole life no other costume would dare put on. I don't know I'm like obsesed with being a witch maybe one day I won't be one for Halloween but for right now I am. It's my all time favorite costume in the whole entire world. I know wierd.

Homemade was always the best. Store bought costumes were plastic fakes but mom could make it as real as the ones in the movies. My favorite was Zorro. The hat was paper and Not too convincing but the mask and cape were made like the originals from cloth by mom on the sewing machine. The most effective was the year I wore my jumpsuit from space camp. It was made like the uniforms used on the space shuttle and coming from a NASA program it was quite authentic. Lacking Ideas I found a can of green face paint and did my whole face with it. I Introduced myself as visitor from Alpha Centauri on assignment in an exchange program with NASA's Science center in Cleveland. The story sold the look and I don't remember ever having so many compliments on my costume and originality. For Costume parties as an adult I have always gone for the Crow. With a long sleeve t-shirt, electrical tape and some clown white and black lipstick I can recreate the look of Brandon Lee with ease, though it's less effective now that I cut my hair. i even grab a can of temporary black hairspray and some black nail polish to finish the look. Add my black jeans and boots and a cheap reusable and effective costume is born.
