What. Giving Best REsponse In Just Two Days?

Ihave noticed something a lot lately in best responses. a lot of people are giving them in just one or two days, and I had been told I should always wait a week or so first before giving best'responses as to do it too early turns a lot of people off. Mylotters, what is your take on that? Is this something New or a m I just behind the times? Not that I want to always get a best 'response myself but doing it too early sort of deprives both responder and poster as the poster doesnt get a larger selection to choose from and the later responders do not get much of a chance either to gather a best response. What do you think?

Mom I wait for 5-7 days usually to select one as best, at times I forget and when i check 'unresolved discussion' i discover some are months old.

I learned to wait to resolved my discussions in a few days from reading a discussion regarding that, that some people prefer to answer unresolved discussions vs resolved one, I have a page of unresolved discussions and would resolved the oldest one as soon as I make a new one. I am not sure who is behind the times, I do not believe it is against the rules of the site, just what people prefer to respond to.

hi shelly no no rules which is great about mylot, as we all have our own ways of doing these things, I just like to' wait a few days unless I get a flood of responses. I need to resolve mine too, i am behind as I am packing too.

yes maybe but by waiting a bit longer you have played more fair I think.

I like to give as many posters as possible the chance to leave a comment on my discussion before I choose a best response. I still have a few discussions that I haven't been able to choose just one best answer. I have seen discussions where best response is given within hours of the discussion being posted. Everyone has their own method I suppose. There is no wrong answer.

hi moneyandgc yes I guess you are right yet seems to me that by giving your discussion at least four or five days people just might respond. lol.

I also agree with you guys Hatley and Moneyandgc that if we give four to five days mostly people will respond more to our discussions and we have option of giving best responses to the right ones. I always give couple of days before giving best responses.

I wait until I see that the post has run it's course and no one else is responding. What if a better response comes along? You cannot go back and change it.

hi nanajanet I do the same thing, because you cannot undo a responce and its so much fairer to later posters.

Well, I truely feel that it extremely unfair on the part of the person who starts any discussion to rate a response as best response, in just 2-3 days. Since it takes time for people to surf around& get too their favourite topics, there should be enough time & opportunity given to people who love writing & try giving heir best to all responses that they post to. I feel 1 week to 10 days should be an ideal duration in which most of the responses would have received. & its then that the owner of the discussion, should finally make a call on which is the best response. Added to this h should ensure to go through all he responses thoroughly before rating an response as BEST. Accept, that his decision wuld be the final as he has the right to declare any response as best, but he should be genuine & unbiased enough, in doing so. the bottom line is .... People who reallly put in a lot of effort in responding should at no point be disappnted, if they are truely deserving..

hi suru yes its nicer if the poster really puts thought into whose response he picks as best, and I know I really do think about it for awhile first.

Well, I try and wait a while before giving a Best Response. But like many here have noticed, I am behind actually when it comes to responding back and giving out Best responses in my discussions, but do what I can. But unless someone was to post something right away that I think fits, I usually wait until I am thru responding back to everyone in the whole discussion before choosing one.

hi tina yes I sometimes do give one right away if its just really awesome but not usually. Usually I wait a week or so and then pick up any responses I have got new and comment back also..I like to give people a chance to read my discussion if they wish and respond or not before choosing a best response myself.

i have seen that tii around mylot. and sometimes i just give a smile. i mean how can you decide a best response in two days or sometimes less than two days. it is okay to pick the best response if your discussion was flooded of 5 or more pages of responses. i've seen members who pick best response in 2 hours and the responses are only 5 responses. it is not really my problem but it is sometimes funny to see people who pick best response while not giving the right span of time for others to response. just my views.

Maybe when the discussion's really popular and there are many good responses already you can award a best response within 2 days. That's very possible. I don't wait for a week or a month. I award a best response when I see something good and if there are more than 10 responses to the discussion already. That's just my own criteria though...so sometimes I don't award a best response even if the discussion is 4 months old because it didn't generate that many responses.

hi mimico you have a very good criteria going there. Thats a great idea, to go with the numberof responses. I had just one response once and waited and finally gave her the best, I felt really silly since then I got a lot more for that first attempt.

I think it is better to wait, because you never know who will comment and when There is no need to rush a BR, so why do it? I have three unresolved discussions where the last comment was made a week ago. Maybe tomorrow I'll resolve them

Well, i think that maybe the poster was just too happy to find a certain response that answers his discussions and was very satisfied with it. Though, it has only been 2 days, he has marked it as best response. For me it is just fine, if the discussion really interests me i will still respond, though the poster has chosen a best response already.

sweetie i disagree sorry I think the poster was copping out by giving it to the poster's best friend, that s not fair to the restof the people who will respond, you should not pick solely on best f riends, what if some other responder has a much better respoonse?

Oh, i didn't that they were best of friends, sorry. If that is the case then i think it is not fair, so others don't have the chance to get his best response because they are not the poster's best friends. All must be given a chance to be marked as best response.

I always wait 1-3 weeks before giving best responses, So that I will have many comments to choose one from. I so do belive it deprives others from even getting a chance at getting a best Response because say if someone else got the best response and all of a sudden later someonme else wrote something way better then the other person then they got screwed over. Another thing too is that I always wait till I have more then 1 or 2 responses before giving best responses even if my disscusion has been up for a long time. I will say that I have about 6 Disscusions that have been up for awhile and has only one response each so I will wait till I feel that maybe the discussion is a lost cause to give best responses. I will say that maybe about a day or two after I put up my disscusions that I do find someone I want to give best response to but I dont do it right there and then I will wait a while just in case something else better comes along but do note that I remember who I want to give it to just in case nothing else better doesnt come along.

I think the best response is the one that inspires the longest thread of comments, which is why I usually wait 4 weeks to choose one & also -why I always comment on the best response when one's already been chosen on a discussion I'm responding-to (even if my 'comment' has little- or nothing to do with the response-given )

I think two days is way to short to make sure that more people are given the chance to put in their best responses. I normally wait for more than a week and sometimes months before I decide on giving away the best response. The reason for taking that long to decide is because I want to make sure that there will be no more comments intended for that post. I think some people just want to get on with it and would not want to wait for long. And there are people who give the best response to their friends only ans=d therefore, once the friend have responded, the best response would go to him or her. Anyway, this case is very rare but it happened. Cheers!

hi guys Yes two days is too short, I think a week or even two is better since its more fair, I give my friends a chance but if I see a better response from someone else I will give it to them, just to be fair.

BR is like love at first sight to me at times.I get so enchanted by the very first response itself once and gave it the BR immediately. At times I wait for weeks. And many times I do not feel like not giving not even a single response. So there is a no rule.I go by what my heart says.

It is to your advantage to wait longer, but I gave one in just one day, recently, just because the responder absolutely hit the nail on the head about what I was hoping to hear, and allowed me to make another good point.

it may need for us to take some time so others who may reply a bit late to the discussion can still have the chance. but really, when a reply is in my discussion and i am impressed by it, i would actually not mind giving it out right away. =) i am sure a lot of people in mylot would not take it against the discussion owner when he or she has already given out the best response, besides some topics are really hard to resist. hehe

hi chiyosan I disagree as you are not being fair t o your own mylot friends who might be away and come back too late as yu have already given the best response. aftedr all if you still wish to give it to one person its not ging away so wainting is much fairer to all concerned. just one week wait. I think it would be better to give best responses after one week or after four to five days. Sometimes the later responders does not get a chance to earn best responses. I think may be there might another option like a rating scale like second best response, etc that might be helpful, which can be given after couple of months. I think the discussions should not be closed with best responses within one or two days.

oh my sorrry I am so late here. I think waiting a week at least offetrs everyone a chance to read and respond if they wish to then we can give a better best response having more to choose from. I think at times people come to a disc ussion sees it already been given a BR and do not respond at all. so waiting actually let you garner a few more responses to comment back to.January 3 0- 2013 wow

Hi Patsie, We have so many myLotters here and each has his or her own personality. So if someone likes giving best response in just 2 days, so be it. I know of an active myLotter here who said that she will immediately give best response once the first page is filled. Period. It's her choice so I can't gainsay her. *tsk* *tsk*

well, for me.. it there are no more responses like 2 days already and no body had responded? I will choose the best response out of those responses that I got. I will not wait for a long time to give best response. I might forget about it if i will wait for too long? That's what happened when I waited and waited until five months, I forget about my topics hahahaha... I just remember it when I checked my unresolved discussions. I don't it to happen again.
