Remember?

I have quite a busy life being a single mum to three young boys who are here, there and everywhere. My poor memory does suffer a little bit that I have to make reminders for myself. Appointments I always put on the calendar hanging on the wall so that I can see them quickly and easily and also on my mobile phone so it sets off an alarm to remind me. Sometimes I need to be reminded to send my son in with his milk money or that I have invited a school friend home for dinner or to empty my filter on my washing machine. I can't tie a knot in my hankercheif to remind me as I would forget why I had tied it there in the first place. No, everything has to go into my mobile so it sets off a vibration and some annoying alarm whilst sitting in my front pocket, where it always is. What do you do to remind yourself that you have something to do?

Hi Humbug, I think once we become mums we suddenly all tend to suffer with short term memory loss. I had a calendar on the wall where I write eveything and school paperwork, fruit money, dinner money etc are all put into envelopes and put by my keys so I don't forget when rushing out in the morning. I have problems these days even remembering why I have gone into the kitchen so if I didn't write it all done I would have no chance. One of my friends reckons on my grave stone I will have written 'one day she'll get organised' as even with all these reminders I will still forget. I got all the way to Tesco the other day only to discover I had left my cash card in work jacket pocket, duh, had to drive all the way back again but at least I realised BEFORE I had done the shopping and not at the checkout LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi ellie333 I am so glad I am not the only one! My son's milk money is paid fortnightly and that is why that is easy to forget!! Every Thursday my eldest plays football in the after school club and every Thursday lunchtime on my way to pick up my youngest from pre-school I have to drop my sons trainers at the school reception or else he will play in his school shoes and for some reason we never manage to have them in hand before leaving for school. Maybe this week I won't forget! Cheers

You sound as though you have your hands full my friend! I have a list that I make with the jobs that need to be done during the day I keep it on my computer desk, seeing as I am on the computer frequently I can hardly forget it's there can I? When I have done the job I will cross it off and then I can relax once all the things to do, chores, tasks etc have been crossed off. I also have a desk diary as well to alert me if there are any appointments etc to keep, I am quite organized and I pride myself on my systematic and methodical approach! There's modesty for you!

Glad I could help! I always say out of sight out of mind! And if the list is right in front of me I can't avoid it, no matter how daunting the chores are! But I like to reward myself as well if I cross of a chore that I hate doing, call it an incentive!

What a terrible thing to be the only one to take care of three kids. I know how hard it is to do. I sympathize and hope things work out better for you in the future. Cheers!!

Hi there underdogtoo I would much rather be with my kids on my own than to still be with their father that's for sure. Still the kids keeping me busy keeps me out of trouble!! Thanks for your response

I always put my schedule in the future in my Microsoft Outlook in each of the time and if ever it is my wife would always remind me to do such things in that particular day and so glad that she is here with me for she is taking good care of my things and arrange all of my schedule like my personal secretary, really do not know what to do if she is not with me.

I sometimes write it down on the note ,and then stick it onto some obvious places so that i can notice it quickly and easily.Besides I used to run something important in my brain repeatedly, so It will be difficult for me not to remember doing it.

Hi ya colourless I too used to use like post-its but found that they used to fall off expecially in the kitchen where it gets warm and the post-it lose their stickyness and the kitchen is where I spend most of my time and that is where my calendar is though I don't look at my calendar everyday! Cheers

As i tend to get carried away at work, looking at the computer and surf the internet, i wrote all the things that i need to do in that week. Wrote it before i went home at the friday before the week. And when the week starts, whenever pops into mind and whatever people ask me to do i immediately write it down. Saying, "oh, sorry, i forgot!" doesnt sound professional, right? One of the traits i planned to overcome. hoping your mobile will live long and prosper so it can be your remembrall as long as you need it! :)

I write all appointments and activities on a calendar so I can easily see what I have to do each day. I also have a habit of writing myself lists of things to do each day. I do still forget somethings, but I figure that I am doing okay because I remember the most important things each day. One way I helped myself to stop forgetting to send lunch money with my kids was to pay in advance for a week or two, and wite it on my calendar when I needed to send more money.

Hi there. Seems to a common problem, I live with a diary, a big diary, so I can't lose it. I write everthing in it. I would like to sugest to all the people with bad memories - go get it checked out! My sister recently went to get her memory checked out and apparently she has a shortage of creatin (something like that)in her brain. She is drinking a course of tablets for 6 months......and NO bad memory.

I have a Personal Digital Assistant. A PDA. where i can put all my appointments, memo, things to do. I insert all notes on it, from things that I have to do such as picking up my son from my parents, to other things related to my work or a grocery item that I have to buy. If I don't write, my memory really tricks me. © ronaldinu 2008
