Water of Life - How many glasses a day?

They say that one should have 8 glasses of water a day for a healthy living, is this true? How many glasses of water do you usually have in a day? I always lose track because I tend not to notice. It's probably about 3-6 glasses only. And sometimes I do not even drink water but juices or tea instead. Is this unhealthy? Whenever I have fever or cold though, I drink a lot of water and it helps me get better faster. How important is it to have the necessary amount of water for a day?

I read somewhere recently that said the 'recommended' amount of water we should consume to be healthy is way overestimated. It also has a lot to do with how active you are. The more you move around, the more water you should drink. I always listen to my body. If I'm thirsty and juice or tea just doesn't do it for me, I realize my body is saying it needs more water. I always want a glass of water when I come in from gardening or any kind of yardwork. I don't think there's really any 'set' amount, as long as you drink at least a couple of glasses a day you should be okay. Your body will tell you if you need more. That's my opinion, anyway.

Ahh yes, I think I should do the same. Because I usually get juices of tea when I'm thirsty and sometimes I feel I'm still thirsty after drinking. Sometimes it's inevitable because there isn't any water available on nearby stores. I do drink more water at home though. Thanks for sharing!

I read somewhere that your body needs 1/2 ounce water per pound of body weight. That's not to say it all needs to come from drinking water; you can get it from fruits and veggies, they even said tea and coffee. Since I am not good at knowing how much water is contained in the foods I eat, I always make sure to drink 60 oz's per day. I can definitely tell the difference, when I don't drink it my skin gets dry and flakey, my lips get very chapped and my hair is dry...so if those are things to be noticed on the outside, I can only imagine what is happening on the inside! I say - DRINK YOUR WATER!

Actually, I don't know the exact numbers of glasses of water I drink in a day. perhaps, I drink about 5-6 glasses too and I think drink more when it's hot. Some said that the eight glasses of water a day are much preferable and more healthy. But other said that it is not necessarily to follow that, 5- 6 glasses are quite good enough. So, I don't really know which is quite more healthy and necessary, but I drink water as many as I can.

I think i only take a single glass of water per day, even thou the recommendedation is that atleast a person should take 8 glasses per day but i find myself not being thirsty most of the time. But why take 8 glasses of water when you only be thirsty once in a day?

If your body isn't telling you you're thirsty, then there's probably something wrong. Unless you're taking in other liquids, you're in serious danger of becoming dehydrated, which can affect your health.

I agree with unusual suspect. Getting dehydrated is dangerous. Please do watch your health. Sometimes we don't feel thirsty even though the water in our body is already minimal. Thanks for sharing!

Eight glasses a day isn't a rule; it's a guideline. For some people, it may be too much, but for an active person who sweats a lot, it isn't enough. And it's about liquid, not just water. If you drink tea or juices, that also fulfills your need. We also get some liquid from fruits and vegetables. We can usually let our thirst tell us if we're getting enough, but not everybody's thirst signals work well, and they can become dehydrated without feeling thirsty.

I've seen people who get dehydrated without them noticing or getting thirsty. I guess the need for water or fluids vary from one person to another. Thanks for sharing!

I don't have enough either- probably 3-4. I do try to drink more herbal teas which do still count I think. It is really important to have enough water, pure juices are fine for the fluids and herbal teas. I think black teas and coffee aren't so good as they dehydrate you.

Ahh yes, they still count. Hmm is it really true that black tea and coffee dehydrates? Wow, I didn't know that. Good thing I don't take a lot of those. Hehe. Thanks for sharing!

i everytime want to drink water and i cant do so, i dont know why but i cant really take water in between the times of the day. i drink water only while my meals, i take one glass of water and i just cant drink water on the other times of the day i had always tried to do so but i cant. so i think i take about 4 glasses of water in a whole day, which is really not enough but i cant help myself. i know drinking water is really important as it hydrates your body and avoids diseases. and it is no harm if you drink water when you are suffering from fever too and it helps you to cool down your body and get well soon.

well, yest they say that you should dring 8 glasses a day, even though I must admit that I do not drink anyway near that many. I think I too average about 3 or four a day. Water if good for you it cleanse your body and there are so many other good things about it. If you do not get enough of it and you drink a lot of tea and juices it can be harmful to your body it can even affect your kidneys.

Yes it's 8 glasses a day but cut down on fatty and sugary foods and eat loads of fruit and veg. There's certain vitamins (I can't remember which) in them that are great for your skin. Get plenty of sleep too. The trouble also is that it's natural at your age to get spots because of a surge in hormones so don't worry yourself too much. One thing I wish someone had said to me years ago is DON'T PICK! because you'll get scars. Just follow the above and they should improve. Good luck. But i don't drink enough by far, usually about a litre, but I have medication and should drink at least double but unless I'm training I haste to drink water, I do drink plenty of fruit juices etc daily.

Oh thank you, I should keep those in mind. Actually it's either I lack sleep or oversleep, I know it's unhealthy but since I'm also a busy person it cannot be avoided. God bless and thanks for sharing!

i can be sure.. but i know for certain that it's above five glasses a day. when i am in the office, i bring with me a tumbler filled with water and i have to fill that tumbler, 3 to 4 times while i am working. and that's excluding the count of the water that i take during lunches and when i am at home!:)

Hello,Selece! The human body is 50-75% water, depending on a person's age.this water helps regulate and maintain body temperature.water transports nutrients and oxygen and removes waste products and toxins. It moistens and lubricates our mouth.eyes, nose, skin, hair, joints and the digestive tract. In the process daily we lose some water and that has to be adequately compensated else we risk dehydration.,elevated body temperature, fatigue, decrease mental and physical performanceand heat related diseases. So experts have suggested us to drink at least two liters of water daily to stay healthy. However I drink only one liter of water daily on an average. thanx.

I loose count of the amount of water I drink every day. I drink water all day while at home, and all evening at work as well. I am pretty sure I drink more than the recommended eight glasses per day. I would say on some days that I probably drink close to double that amount.

Your brain is mainly made up of water so it is imperative we all drink enough everyday to help keep both our brain and body hydrated. However saying this I rarely drink enough and often find myself feeling dizzy or a little light-headed. I have always been brought up to eat and drink when you feel hungry or thirsty so because of this principal I have conditioned myself not to drink much...which I know is very bad. The problem I have with drinking when it's not necessary or I don't feel I need a drink is that I often find I end up making too many trips to the toilet every two seconds.

Yes, drinking when necessary or drinking too much causes one to have more trips to the toilet. Hehe. But I guess that's healthy because we flush out unwanted toxins from our body with the help of water. Thanks for sharing!

I don't think a person should have to conform to a set amount of water a day. I think a person should drink water only if they are thirsty. Juices and tea are good like you said. I don't normally try to keep track of the amount of water.

Thanks for the opinion and for sharing your thoughts. I guess some people drink only when they feel thirsty, but some people say its better to maintain a certain amount so there'd be no chance for one to be dehydrated.
