Who decides if art successful, attractive or really art?

In the October issue of Art in America, there is a big spread on The Human Theater of Gilbert & George. This is not art. I am wondering how these people make a living and actually get covered in magazine, etc. One piece of "work" is called Sh*tted. The work called P*nis shows a woman holding out her tongue to "receive." I won't go on. You get the idea. Below are some links. They do not show all the pictures that the magazine does. I am so disgusted with the ideas or art, fairness, intelligence and so on..that are world accepts as appropriate. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/02/16/DDJ6V2LRC.DTL&feed=rss.art http://www.nowpublic.com/culture/just-what-art-life-3

Their "art" is not the worst I've seen, but it's not something I'd want to see.

I don't read those magazines. I don't need some trendy thing telling me what is art and what is not art. to me art is extremely personal. People decide for themselves what is art. It's interesting to see what other people THINK, but I do not let those other people influence what I think.

I don't read those magazines either. It was a free magazine that came to my address. However, I was suprised to see that people actually make a living with this sort of "art"....
