those who travelled to Europe once or more, did you use trains for transportation? is it easy to travel by train in Europe? I heard that some certain train journeys between some major cities can be a whole travel experience themselves and the beautiful scenery can be a good company for those who travel alone. Do you have any recommendations? Google gives s*** load of details about travel in Europe but I thought some personal suggestions might do a lot better.

I am originally from the UK (Now in Thailand) and have travelled a lot throughout Europe, the train is the best way to see the countries and an excellent way of mingling with the locals. The standard and pricing of the trains varies a lot in the different countries, places like Germany have an excellent train service. My recommednation is spend some time studying the website www.seat61.com, I am sure you will find absolutely everything you need to know there. It covers routes, prices, classes just about everything to do with trains. If you are travelling around a lot look into the rail passes. Hope this helps you, have a good trip.

I am looking to travel across Europe this summer and I have decided to do it all by rail as I feel that it will enhance my experience!! I have been using www.raileurope.co.uk as it offers a really good range of train ticket throughout Europe.

I suggest a website called Man in Seat 61 for thinking about train travel in Europe. When I was younger I did inter rail around Europe. I had been working as a children's nanny in Finland and so I began my journey in Helsinki, then I went to Turku, next stop Stockholm, then Narkik, next Oslo, then Bergen and then Copenhagen. Next I went to Koln, then Brussels, next Ostend, then Bruges, next Budapest, then Salzburg and lastly Paris. I did a circular train trip a year later going from London to Austria and then home again. My route was London to Munich, to Salzburg, to Zell Am See, to Innsbruck, to Zurich. Years later I have done a trip from Prague to Krakow via Bratislava. A couple of years ago I went to Bulgaria and Romania and traveled around by train. This year I went to the Baltic Countries and didn't find many trains there. I advise getting a rail map of Europe and a timetable like the one published by Thomas Cook.

I was in Europe last year and we went to seven countries in thirty days. To go from one country to another, we took the plane since my mom did not want to waste so much time travelling. If you plan to take the train, I woudld suggest that you just take the sleeper train and do not bring so much as some stations like in Italy do not have escalators. We took trains to go to different cities. We took the train in Italy and France. France has nice trains. Italy on the other hand have not so nice trains. The rains did not smell so nice. Also, another thing to be concerned about are your belongings, make sure all your valuables are always with you. Train journeys tend to be long and most of the time all you see are endless planes with yellow flowers (they say it's mustard). The nice thing about trains though is the possibility to get off whenever you like to explore a city. :) Happy trip!
