What do you think of Eliseo Dela Paz?

I've been watching a lot of news lately. I was alarmed of what's been happening in the Philippines. For one, there's that issue with General Dela Paz who brought an undeclared 6.9 Million pesos in Russia for an official trip for PNP. Of course, he created a scene at Moscow's airport for bringing such a large sum of money. At first, they said it was for contingencies then a few days later it's not anymore but it's now called a cash advance. What is it really? Do they really think Filipinos are that ignorant? I'm sick and tired with all the crap going on in the government. It's so obvious, isn't it? I believe there's really something fishy going on. I hope that the truth will be revealed. So, what do you think about the issue? Do you think Dela Paz is guilty or not?

Here's a portion in our constitution about accountability of public servants (including dela Paz) “Article XI: Accountability of Public Officers,” which begins as follows: Public office is a public trust. Public officers and employees must at all times be accountable to the people, serve them with utmost responsibility, integrity, loyalty, and efficiency, act with patriotism and justice, and lead modest lives (Sec. 1) The 6.9 Million pesos contingency fund or cash advance is no modest at all. This government official and the rest of his cohorts are conniving and making us feel stup*d by finding all the lame excuses for them not to be implicated.

That really brought a lot of bad image in our country being a representative of PNP and the government. It is such a very callous move for them to bring that much cash with them. They are just so ignorant for doing it oir maybe they were thinking that the Russian Government would be negligent about this things.

That was a very ignorant move for Dela Paz indeed. And they think that the Filipino people will be as ignorant to believe their stories that's not even consistent. The bad guys ought to be punished.

Hi divinegwapa! Definitely General Dela Paz will have many explanations to make. I do really believe that the money he carries with him will be deposited in his or somebody else account in a foreign bank. You could smell something fishy here when he did not declared this money even in Philippine Custom and in Moscow if it is really for contingency plan (remember we are only allowed to carry a certain amount of money outside the country). One thing that really make me sick is nobody from the PNP knows or sure where this money came from, in the PNP budget or somewhere else. If it is in the PNP budget, how come they did not know about it (or they are just pretending). After ZTE, I think we have to watch and observe another government controversy. Seems like we still haven't seen the last from them.

I think there could still be more from them. I just hope that someone from the government would stand up and fight the good fight for the constitution.

there is a lot to be said in this government... and I really can't say them here for they are not really nice to hear... well, it's too much really ! They are all guilty of one thing or another. It is not surprising anymore. And the more you think of it, the more you wanna not believe in democracy anymore...

I think I know what you mean and yes, it better left unsaid. ;D But I'm still hopeful about this issue no matter how untrustworthy our government has become. At least there's Miriam Santiago ho's fighting for this one.

Everything is crap when it concerns the Philippine government these days. What's worse, nobody gets caught and the culprit goes on living and breathing fresh air as if nothing happens. Everything is just under investigation and nothing stimulating ever happens. First of all, for a government official to be bringing in that much money into another country is stupid enough how much more making a lousy excuse such as ignorance of international law. Eliseo Dela Paz is lying through his teeth and we all know that that money is illegal in all ways. he thought he can get away with it and when he got caught, everybody in the Palace was scrambling to cover up the snafu. there's nothing more irritating than for government officials to play dumb and uninformed about the whole thing. they think the people will buy their fake stories. please, even the most illiterate of Filipinos can smell the stink from afar. right now, the Senate is holding investigation but as always i am not optimistic that something good will come out of this or guilty parties will be brought to justice. that's why we're deep in political and economic crisis coz the powerful and greedy sit on top and common people will just remain begging for crumbs.

I couldn't agree with you more. The law enforcers are the ones breaking the laws. It's just disgusting! I'm not looking forward for the 2010 elections anymore. I think what we need are leaders of integrity and character. I think it's going to be hard to find those people for a better Philippines. As for the issue, I really really hope no matter how faint it may be that the truth will be revealed and proper sanctions be given to those involved. It happened to Thailand. Their Prime Minister was impeached and will be imprisoned for 2 years because of corruption. I hope this time it happens for the Philippines as well.

i think he is guilty.. in the first place he is already retired and he is still attending official seminars financed by government/people's money.. now they are trying to get their act together to try to get out of this mess.. anyway, the politicians are experts on that.. now even after what has happened, these officials continue attending seminars outside of the country.. along with their wives.. and using people's money..

Just like you, for me the issue is really disgusting and just shows how corrupt our different government organizations are. I saw the senate hearing on this a few days ago and i was so happy when sen. miriam santiago was scolding the pnp officials like they were school children. They deserved to be scolded. I think the whole pnp and even dilg is in on this. I think they're going to make dela paz the scapegoat. Poor man. There should be a lifestyle check on all high ranking government officials so as to know who really is corrupt among them. Even the president should be investigated on.

Morally and politically incorrect. bringing that big amount of money is really questionable. There are rules that needs to be followed. Sending plenty of delegated abroad is another thing. Filipinos are starving and it is a great falacy to spend the money of Juan de la Cruz for their travel. i think it is best to bring the lifestyle check back. Most govenment officials doesn't have a conscience.
