I often hear it and in fact my kids used it, when something is bizarre and I do unusual things, my kids will blurted out, ADIK! When my sister was to go on and shopping and my younger sister would ask if she can join her she would blurted out ADIK! when hubby is on the PC and playing online games my kids will blurt out ADIK! I really can't explain the term and the meaning and how it is being used but of course it is somehow related to the term ADDICT or being addicted to something, if you will look the meaning of addict in the web, you will come across An individual who has developed physiologic or psychologic dependence on a chemical such as alcohol or other drugs. I am really thinking hard how this expression is so popular now and how it is related to any situations it is being used to. Do you have any idea guys? ADIK ka din ba? Ok another one, I was chatting with my siter talking about mylot, and she answered back (in high pitvh tone) ADIK!

hi pehpot. well, this is another pinoy slang. the expression initially had something to do with what you wrote. like, instead of physical or psychological dependence on chemical, it's like a certain fondness on to something. and it evolved. now the term "adik" is like saying, "crazy", "impossibly crazy", or "funny crazy". and at times, "annoyingly crazy or impossible." well, this is how people around me use it. i hope this helps. ehehe.

I often use the term too. But in my case I use it when for example, one person is going to commit his or her time in something like playing the pc for long hours. Another is that when someone is so good at something for example Photoshop. And of course sometimes when people just do or say things that are kind of unusual but still normal I call them Adik. Well we Filipinos really have this habit of making new meanings for words, and we all understand each other but when asked how to explain it, it really is difficult, that's why I love the Pinoys! We can never be boxed in a Dictionary and the meanings of the words in it.

Lol... If you are a Filipino I be you already know what this means. Most of us have experienced being told that we are ADIK because of some weird reason or just because it's their expression.

Hahaha! I once mentioned this term with a chatmate and he associated the term addict with some kind of addiction into something. That somehow annoyed me because all I wanted to say was expression and not some kind of addiction.

well, just last night i called you adik for having a some sort of fixation over photographers . and then you also called me adik today because i am addicted to my blog so i guess that makes us even. kidding aside, as with most Pinoy expressions, the term has evolved into something of a common word that is taken out of its context to include in everyday conversations. judging from how it is used right now, i think it means crazy or stupid (although the last meaning does not apply to you. just the first one. hahahaha!) pehpot adik! hahahaha!

In India this expression has not caught on.It is probably a locally popular expressin in your country. i don't know if it is popular amongswt the youth in the metropolition cities like Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai. It hardly takes youngsters to coin anew word. They will soon tire of the old words and start od some new expression which will fox us for a while. Must check with my daughters.

I haven't heard any of my nieces or nephews using this expression... but if it is getting popular... then i think that is the replacement for the ever popular "Pasaway" expression... i wonder where they got that... i don't really watch local shows... but i think that is were they got that expression... usually in Eat Bulaga... Bubble Gang... or Wowowee...

Yes, I also hear that from the young folks and even from not so young ones! Also from the TV and from the radio. Most of them would say while joking around "Adik!" Well I believe they use this to tease a person who speaks or act like "Addict". But sometimes this is already being over-used...if only to trigger laughter. Well, you know the Filipinos...we are very good in coining words. I hope the Adik tagged to a person will not really lead him to become Addict...ha!ha!ha! Otherwise, problem...big problem!

I used that term too when my friends are doing something that they are fond of doing... ADIK!!! LOLS... That knowing them few years back, they haven't change and still doing what I know there doing before... Like shopping, watching DVD non-stop in a day, going to the same place at the same day, like that so I used the term ADIK. I myself is ADIK too. I'm addicted to shopping at the mall and online, always online on my messengers. LOLs... They sometimes ask me if I sleep because I'm always online. then the expression goes... ADIK! LOLs...
