In provinces in the Philippines, Albularyos or quack doctors are very common. They cure people without the use of modern medicines. They use herbals and stuff. Have you guys ever been to one? Do you believe in their healing power?

I think most people in other places would refer to them as shamans. To us they are albularyos but in other places they call them shamans. Its actually like thay have supernatural powers to hear or harm a person. But in most movies that i have seen people usually go to them to seek healing/cure. Im rally not sure im these people possesses real healing powers but i think if you would use the word "quack doctors" to refer to them i think it would mean to as fake doctors. Anyways im really not sure whether to believe such or not, there are still lots of things either physical or supernatural that most people like us do not know about. :)

By the way, i havent gone to one yet. I think we dont have to people around our place here or either they are just not that usual to find. People here would mostly go to hospitals to seek medical attention or either if they dont have much to spend they would rather go to a manghihilot(i dont know what the english term for it) or to an albularyos or what we refer to as shamans. I think they charge lesser fees as compared to hospitals that is why most people who cant afford to go to hospitals would rather go to them. :)

When I was a kid, my parents used to bring me to albularyo but that was before, lately I haven't tried it again. I only go for the "hilot".

Well, not exactly to a quack doctor... but i took my daughter to a "hilot"... since she had a fever for two days... but she doesn't have any cough or cold... so my mother-in-law suggested that we consult one... When we got there... the "hilot" said she has a minor "pilay" or fracture and that he fixed it already... but the following day... my daughter's fever did not go away... so i decided to take her to a real doctor... it was thare that we found out that she had a lot of blisters in her mouth... which was causing the fever... Going to the "hilot" was worth a try... since we did not give any money... just biscuits... but it is also a good thing that i brought my daughter to a real doctor...

My said they always bring me to the albularyo, when I was 1 - 2yrs old? I think. Because I always bite my tongue. The albularyo said that there are spirits who are playing with me, "nakyukyutan daw". The albularyo said he saw one white lady, one dwarf and one tikbalang in my "tawas". My mom and auntie always bring me to the albularyo whenever I am sick. But now, I don't go to an albularyo anymore.

I've been to one before when i was still in my teenage days. I was from Iloilo and its very common for us ilonggos to believe in quack doctors. But there are times that they can really heal you. I got my toes swell and i cant really walk. the quack doctor offered candles and prayers or maybe a chant to drive away the "engkantos" that makes my foot swell and after i drink the concoction that he made i really got well.

Well I have not seen one nor have I been consulted to one but I heard many stories especially in the far flung areas were modern medical help could be taken. Sometimes their stories are just amazing how they were able to survive their ordeal and there are also many stories that tell that they were cured by traditional medicine folklore than the conventional ones. But I think its all in the mindset of each and every sick person how much he believes in the practice that really cures a person's sickness.
