Pebicab or Tricycle?...

What do you have in your area... a pebicab or a tricycle?... There are no pebicabs in my area... but i wish there are... since a pebicab ride is usually cheaper than a tricycle... and that there are less accidents that involve this mode of transportation... Other than that... pebicabs do not use diesel or gasoline... so they are more environment friendly... and they take up less road space since they are quite smaller... i hope there will be more pebicabs because i surely prefer them rather than tricycles... How about you... what co you prefer... a pebicab or a tricycle?...

Pedicab - photo from - http://rickshawsetcetera.blogspot.com/2007/04/pedicab-pinoy-innovation.html

A small three-wheeled vehicle having a seat, pedals, and handlebars in front for the operator and a usually hooded cab in back for passengers.

The price of the fare would be different with each place. We don't have pedicabs here at our town and the price for the fare just to go to out where the bus station is would be eleven pesos. Walk a couple of minutes more and it would be ten pesos and pass through a tunnel would get you a nine peso fare price. The closer you are to your destination, the cheaper the fare should be. Comparing tricycles and pedicabs, we obviously know which ones are more convenient and friendly when it comes to the environment. For faster travel time however, especially for those who are in tight schedules, they would practically go with a tricycle. As for me, I really don't like to ride tricycles since I am rather a tall person. The side car would have me hunched as well as the back ride.. not really convenient for me. For short distances, pedicabs would be ideal while tricycles for long and far ones.

Thank yo for putting a photo of a pebicab... and i agree on the thing you pointed out... it would be great to have two choices in the area... but drivers do not want a lot of competition... so tricycle drivers would rather not compete with pebicab drivers... that is why here in my area... there are no pebicabs... but in another city there are no tricycles... Thanks for the response...

Well,i didn't have available photo in my laptop... and i did not think of searching one in the internet... but then... some drivers tend to think that they own the road... especially the tricycle drivers... they would think of many ways just to crush the competition... and most of the time... the commuters are the ones affected by this... I think there should be a separate body that would regulate tricycle drivers... since their number is currently huge...

I was wondering myself why you didn't include an image on this discussion of yours.. considering that you have already participated in this site with over four thousand post That's another thing about that kind of stuff, its really hard to implement things like that, choices for travel since if a prevailing mode of tranportation gets confronted with competition, they might not find it very convenient on their end. (-_-") There was this incident here at our place when the main road became another convenient route for bus drivers to go by so that they can easily go straight to the express way but, inadvertently made tricycle drivers lose passengers since some of the buses that goes by had trips that passengers, who usually took tht tricycle ride to go to the bus station, where going to. Instead of riding a tricyle, they'd just wait along the main road until a bus comes along with the sign of the trip that they are going to. The issue rather annoyed the tricycle drivers so one time, as a bus was going along the main road, a group of tricycle drivers on their tricycles blocked the way. Count to think of it, the tricycle drivers shouldn't be complaining since the main road that the bus navigates through is open for the public and not exclusive for tricycle drivers alone.. then again, a competition as big as buses surely is crippling (-_- )

I think tricycle is more cheaper than pedicab. We don't have pedicab here in our place. But in my school there are pedicabs and it is expensive. Each head cost 10 pesos and the traveling distance is short. Unlike in the tricycle it only cost 7 pesos, the distance is far, or 8 pesos in some areas if it is very far. I like to ride also in pedicabs it's fun. If you try to visit Intramuros you'll see pedicabs. And tricycle are faster than pedicab, if you are in a hurry. Good day!

The tricycle ride in your area is quite cheap... here in my place... the cheapes is 20 pesos... so pebicabs would cost less for 10 pesos... aside for that... a lot of tricycle drivers are quite reckless... they would always overspeed... so there are a lot of tricycle related accidents in my area... Thanks for the response...

Wow! 20 pesos is the cheapest? Is that a regular ride or special? Here in our place the 7 pesos is the cheapest price for regular and 29 pesos is the cheapest price for special, the most expensive I think 42 pesos.

Now you need to enlighten me. What is a pebicab? The only tricycle I know is the one kids ride...and of course, that is not used as a mode of transportation. I'm wondering if your tricycle is something like our autorikshaw. It's got 3 wheels too and is covered.

A tricycle in my country is a motorbike with a side car... so passengers just ride the side car... and a pebicab is a bicycle with a side care either at the back or the side... so it doesn't need diesel or gasoline since the driver just peddles it... a little the same with the richshaw... Thanks for the response...

Hello aseretdd, Hi there.... Are you referring to a pedicab? We don't have both - pedicab and tricycle here in Kuala Lumpur. The last time I saw a pedicab was about twenty years ago - back in my hometown. That time, we used a pedicab to go around the small town, from one street to another. The road was clear, not as busy as now and I didn't feel afraid at all to take one. Most of the pedicab drivers were old men and sometimes it made me feel sorry for them. I just remembered my father whenever I looked at them, trying hard to move the vehicle. But it has been a long time I didn't see a pedicab in my small town. I don't think it is available anymore... The roads become very busy even as a pedestrian also, you need to be very careful while crossing the road.

Yes, i did not see any pebicab or tricycle when i visited Kuala Lumpur three years ago... but there are plenty of taxi... and the cars are quite cute because they are small... but the taxi drivers tend to charge too much especially at night... that is why my aunt and i opted to just walk rather than ride one... Thanks for the response...

I think taxi drivers are the same anywhere in the world... good thing the first one that i rode was a kind person... he did not charge a lot from the airport to my hotel... and that was quite far... and i notice that most taxis charge 20 rupees as a minimum during night time... and that is just too much...

Hello aseretdd, Now, the local car manufacturers come out with so many SUVs. You can see a lot of small cars here There is no tricycle or pedicab here but sometimes, I can see some Bangladeshi workers ride a bike on a busy road which to me, is very very dangerous in Kuala Lumpur. Maybe that's the only cheap transportation for them to save budget. We have many taxis too but as a foreign tourist, you need to be careful sometimes. Some of the taxi drivers are just pure arrogant especially to the 'dont- know- anything' tourists and charging as much as they want. I am not saying all of them are bad or trying to give a bad image of my own people, but it is a true fact to some. I remember a foreign friend told me that he was charged RM50 (USD14) for a ride less than 10 minutes to KLCC and very lucky that he knew Kuala Lumpur very well that he confronted the taxi driver.

right! sometimes i do walk also since my work was just a kilometer away! if i were to think about the cost of fare between pedicab and tricycle... Pedicab is more expensive.

Well in my area it so happen that we don't have both. I live in an area where there are large exclusive subdivision and my place is around that area that pedicaba nor the tricycle would not thrive as most have their own cars. I do live outside those subdivision and I have no car so I have to walk about several meters to get a jeep to go where I want.

Yeah when it comes to emergency cases this place is not a good place to live in. But I like the place because it is a very peaceful community I could even see cars being parked outside their houses and it is not being harmed in any way at all. The nearest transpo that I could have is taxi cabs or if you would walk several meters away from my house are jeepneys.

We don't have either one, although an aunt of mine who lives in Florida takes her wash from her apartment to the community laundry room on a tricycle that she peddles herself. She is so totally cool. I have never ridden either one, so it would be hard to choose. Where we live, people who want small conveyances use golf carts, but I don't have one of those either. I'd love to try riding a Segway, but honestly I'd be too embarrassed to try one because they are so unusual that when one surfaces they sort of stop traffic. I wouldn't want to cause an accident. Here is a red one from Ferrari: http://www.finalsense.com/news/image/auto/ferrari-segway-pt-i2.jpg

The Segway is very interesting... i saw some actors using the same thing in some tv series... but that is not convenient in my country... since the heat of the sun and dust would surely make the rider uncomfortable... i think your aunt uses the pebicab... since she peddles herself... and tricycles usually have a motor to run... Thanks for the response...

Yes, the word means something quite different here--here it is just a bicycle with three wheels and generally not motorized--usually a toy for children to little to ride a bike. But here is a picture of what we call an adult tricycle and this is what my relative uses to carry her laundry: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?dest=9999999997&product_id=5679542&sourceid=41697645033654746131

I think we have both in our area. I prefer riding a tricycle because its faster and i think here in our place we pay both just the same price. While i think tricycles should be paid higher because they are faster and i think they use gasoline. IF you would look at it here in our place, people here would prefer to ride a tricycle rather than a pedicab because they just cost the same but tricycles are much faster. I think there are times when it is also time consuming to ride a tricycle because the drivers would tend to wait for a long time for more customers before going to save on fuel as compared to riding a pedicab why you ride they immediately would go to your destination. I think there are really pros and cons when you ride either of both. :)

Just like you I prefer a pedicab for the very same reason you mentioned. It's economical and safe. I don't like the tricycles in our place. At least 6 people can actually fit. 4 people in the inside, and 2 at the back. So crowded.

Oh my... that is like overcrowding and overweight... that is so not allowed... i would never ride a tricycle if it will fit that many people inside... and i don't think that can be the case in a pebicab... the driver would have a hard time peddling... Thanks for the response...

We also don't have pedicabs in our area, only tricycle as a public transport to get in and out of the village. But I have tried riding on a pedicab since a friend of mine lives where pedicab is used to get to their place. Since I am used to riding in a tricycle and our house is quite far even riding a tricycle, I think I'll prefer it. But I also enjoy riding in a pedicab, it is always a different experience and is environment friendly.

We do not have such a thing here in the USA. It would be nice if we did. We have mass transit with buses an taxis. Mostly we American's tend to drive. Now with gasoline so high we are taking more public transportation. I take the bus every Monday and it comes to the door for me. I usually do not use it any other day but Monday because I have a driver on Fridays and I try to do my errands then.

Most Filipinos cannot afford a car... and there is really no need for one since public transportation is available anywhere... and pebicabs i think are best... since they are environment friendly... cheaper... and not that prone to accidents... and anyone can drive it... since there is no need to apply for a license... it is quite difficult in the US... when i worked abroad... i was forced to study how to drive... or else i would have to take the bus to and from work everyday... and that could be quite difficult...
