Why SOCCER is not popular in North America?

The World Cup is the sport event that attracts the highest number of audiences worldwide. So why isn't soccer really big in North America? There are mainly two reasons why I believe soccer is not big in North America: 1) There is only one break (half-time), which only gives 15 minutes of advertisement opportunity for companies(as opposed to hockey or basketball or football, where there are more breaks, thus more advertisement). So it is not as money profitable as football. 2) North Americans are unskilled with the lower part of their bodies (legs). Instead of trying to improve their skills, they changed the concept of games, such as football, which was to be played with the foots (FOOTball), but now is played more with the hands. HAHAHAHAHA Why do you guys think soccer isn't big in North America?

Because people in north america are too impatient. if two soccer teams are good it could take a long time for anyone to score. NA's like instant gratification. they want to see two football teams line up on the field, hike the ball, pushing and shoving, yelling and grunting, pain and gain a few yards all in a matter of 5 seconds. repeat as needed to score. keep posting.. take care and have fun..

Yes anitajayakumar, I agree with you in that sense. Like I had mentioned, I think the more points to the game there are, the less intense and excited it is to watch it. There are so many points going on that they lose their value/worth, whereas one goal in soccer is life !

Hi toppovisky. Yes I think soccer is not big in north america but it is changing. I see little girls play a lot of soccer at school. My husband is American and I asked him the same question. he said that he thinks Americans like to see scoring goals fast, like in basketball. But in soccer, it's long and it usually it takes a long time for the players to score. Some think that makes it boring. Have a good day.

Hey VotreAmie, I have never thought of it in that way, but it does make sense ! N. Americans do probably get bored at games with few and slower scores. For me in the other hand, I find sports with lots and fast scores boring. Theres so much going on that the points dont mean as much as one soccer goal, they just become points. I believe the more points there are, the less intense the games become. What do you think about that?! Peaceeeeeee
