I'm going to assume you mean slavery. Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, making slaves free people during the Civil War. He is credited with the abolition of slavery in the United States. However, ratification of the 13th amendment to the Constitution is what actually abolished slavery in the United States. Section 1 of the 13th amendment states: Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. The 13th amendment was ratified in 1865 subsequent to the Emancipation Proclamation which was feared to be seen as a temporary use of the President's war powers. Funny, I think that sounds familiar. :)
