Dozens of call center workers give up a day's pay to avoid reading McCain smears

More evidence that people are sick and tired of the sadly-familiar Republican brand of character assassination/smears campaign tactics. *** "Some three dozen workers at a telemarketing call center in Indiana walked off the job rather than read an incendiary McCain campaign script attacking Barack Obama, according to two workers at the center and one of their parents. Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County, Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called her from her job at the center, upset that she had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being "dangerously weak on crime," "coddling criminals," and for voting against "protecting children from danger." Williams' daughter told her that up to 40 of her co-workers had refused to read the script, and had left the call center after supervisors told them that they would have to either read the call or leave, Williams says. [...] "We were asked to read something saying [Obama and Democrats] were against protecting children from danger," [one] worker said. "I wouldn't do it. A lot of people left. They thought it was disgusting."" -- http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/10/dozens_of_call_center_workers.php

I am tired of hearing the back and forth of attack adds and all the other garbage. If a canidate makes a statement, or a review of his record would indicate a certain belief or judgement, it is fair game. That is why we have all this campaiging going on. Each candidate say's what and how they would lead. The other tries to discredit it and restates his position. If a person said Obama is a lier and can't be trusted. The lying part is true, but can't be trusted is a conclusion drawn by the person making the comment based on one fact, his life experiances, and judgement. Now McCain has voted 90% of the time with bush, fact. Will his presidency be just like the last eight or four years? That is a conclusion based on one fact and again the conclusion drawn by the individual based on his prior experiances and judgement. Disagreeing with a persons views, facts or conclusions is not attacking as a negative,it's debating. What is an attack, when a person asks a question and is investigated and attacked not about the question or circumstances associated with it but about his personal life. THAT IS AN ATTACK!!!!!

bet the state of IN were happy the telemarketers walked off meant they got a days rest from the annoying calls that they get from them. I wish the telemarketers would walk off here for a week. As for them being told read it or leave they have the right to say that. We all take jobs and there will be times when they will want us to do something we don't want to do and it is your choice. Wouldn't matter if was McCain or Obama I was voting for if it was my job to read something I would. If i had real issues with it then yes I would walk but thatis my choice. It is a job. Is what you get paid for. Yay for IN one less call to answer from annoying telemarketers. Both canidates are slinging mud right now because it is getting down to the wire. Is almost to the point am gunna put both names in a hat mix it up and draw one out.

Well McCain never went around lying and making claims that people at Obama rallies yelled "Kill Him". Obama on the other hand has been more than happy to spread such lies even after the Secret Service insists it never happened and the accusations are unfounded.

Am not saying sugar coat things but just remember like anyone else you are NOT always right.

cjrwells, would you have walked out if they were making these calls for the Obama camp? I'm sure you wouldn't. If you can't do your job then you don't deserve that job. It's that simple.

Then they should be fired. Nobody forced them to work in a call center. They chose that job because it pays well and all people have to do is sit on their a$$ and annoy others. Telemarketers are the scum of the earth. I don't care if they're working for a business or a political campaign. They are lazy and they choose their lot in life. These lazy people just happen to be Obama supporters. That really doesn't surprise me.

I wonder if it would be possible to fire the automatic ebots that the republicans are sending out by computer? We have to remember that the repubs have a lot of dirty tricks in their bag and they seem to enjoy using them. You don't know for a fact that these workers are Obama supporters. Some people care about whether to use the republican dirty tricks or not, regardless whether they are republicans or democrats. That's a stupid statement to make Taskr. I think an apology is warranted. Here is the Obama tax plan if you would like to figure your taxes. http://www.barackobama.com/taxes I figured mine and it is much better than what McCain proposes.
