I have a dog that is a shedder! He is part Huskey and therefore gets two new coats of fur a year. Basically he is a constant shedding machine! I vacuum constantly. I at least vacuum our living room daily. I often will do it 2 or three times a day. Our dog is blond and the carpet is dark green. It is not a good combo! The rest of my floors are hard wood or linoleum. I am sweeping a lot too. How frequently do you vacuum and why?

We have a dog that is a non shedder. (Love it) So we don't vacuum but once a week. I would like to get a better vaccuum, because I don't think this one does a very good job. But that is a differant discussion all together.

Don't you have one of those Labradoodles or something? I've heard that the poodle part makes them non-shedders, right? This is our first dog and I will definitely think more about the type of dog we choose next time.

Yes, a goldendoodle. The non shed gene is dominant so in the hybrid that gene will take over and the dog will be non shedding. Very cool, to say the least.

LOL I have two shedding dogs and four messy kids. I usually try to do it once or twice a day. It just depends on things. I vacuumed last night and expect to do it here in a bit because we have to go trick or treating tonight. I am so excited!! I have tried those shed ender shampoos and they don't work, so I went to wal-mart and got a shed ender comb and it seems to work great for about 2-3 weeks. The problem is that I have to vacuum up what hair I couldn't just sweep up with the broom--it's a never ending cycle!!

I don't have a carpet nor a vacuum cleaner. All I have are old-fashioned brooms and mops. I don't clean. There are maids who do that for me. Cheers!!

I'm afraid that a maid would be only for the rich here. Sometimes a working woman will have someone come in for a couple hour a week to clean. But most middle class people would not be able to afford that here.

I try not to vaccum daily anymore. But I do not have an animal in the house either. I have a husky (no way is he in my house) and I know what you mean by the shedding of hair. I had new carpet put in this Spring and the guys that laid it told me that the manufacturer suggested only once a week for vaccuming for proper wearing of the carpet. I narrowed it down to twice a week but once a week just seems to little for me. I have noticed that my carpet looks better though since I have cut back on vaccuming it. It doesn't wear down so quickly. Maybe you could use some kind of brush to pick up the hair in order to skip a day or two a week.

He is a goofy dog and doesn't like to be brushed too much. I do it when he is in a relaxed mood. Otherwise he seems to think it's some sort of game and tries to play the whole time, chewing at the comb. He's 2 and 1/2 and I'm hoping he will eventually grow up! I try to keep him outside and also on our back porch as much as I can. But as a Huskey he is a very social animal and doesn't like to be outside away from us for very long. He ends up barking to come back in. He tends to drive the neighbors nuts and so you could say he has me well trained in that he barks and I obediently go bring him in. It's a good thing he's so darned cute!

Sounds like my dog's Huskey half is very strong! He chews (or eats) basically anything! That's why having him in the house is difficult. We have him tethered in various places most of the time. He will find things to chew even if we go around and completely pick everything up.

Oh yes they are the social butterflies! LOL Mine is 2 and I don't think they ever grow up. He has always been outside. He has his own little house and all but he loves to try to come in. Last winter we put him a space heater in his dog house and he chewed it up! So this year we got creative and enclosed one in the top of the dog house where he can't get to it. It got really cold last night so I went out and turned it on and he barked at it all night. This morning he was laying outside his doghouse shivering! LOL They love the cold weather and he is proving that he is having nothing to do with that heater! LOL

I try to vacuum as little as possible! LOL, can you tell I hate it. I do at least vacuum once a week. I don't have any pets but I do have several people in and out daily. I have tried my best to get them to take off their shoes as soon as they come in... so far that has not worked. We do have to sweep on a daily basis. If there is something on the carpet and I don't want to drag out the vacuum I will sweep over it. That is actually almost aerobic. Ever tried sweeping carpet?

I suppose that if you have Berber or commercial type carpeting that would work, wouldn't it? I have a low plush carpet. My other main problem are the TV snackers in my home. My husband is the major culprit. He has not quite learned yet (old dogs and new tricks concept) how to be neat when he snacks. But he brings home the bacon so who am I to complain? Thanks:)

i don't have a dog at the moment and i only live with my hubby... we also seldom stay at home because both of us are working full time... so we don't need to vacuum my carpet that often... and if i have to get a dog, i will definitely get a non-shedder because i just can't stand fur flying around everywhere... take care and have a nice day...

When my dog was still alive I had to do it everyday or every other day at the least. But shortly before our dog passed away we got all hardwood floors on the lower level of the house. So I sweep more than I vaccuum down here. When my dog was alive I had to sweet twice a day, now I sweep once a day. The upstairs carpets only get vaccuumed once a week. They do not get too bad, and the kids rooms get so messy that I can't vaccuum until they clean them. They have to clean their rooms once a week, but they usually only stay clean for a day or two, so I have to get in there and vaccuum on the one day their rooms are clean.

I vacuum around twice a week. As we have no pets I sometimes only do it once a week. I like to keep dust at bay as my partner is asthmatic.

Hi ya rocketj1 Well I used to vacuum every day or so but since we got some gineapigs there is sawdust constantly on the floor and walked through the house so I am now vacuuming a couple of times a day or so!

Yes we have had them nearly a week now, they are still a bit scared but we are geting there with them. Trouble is that the hutch is useless because it has no lip on it so everytime I open the cage door they shovel out a load of sawdust when they run from me!!

Hi rocketj. Since there is only two of at home now, I only vacuum once a week. I sweep more often tho. We don't usually let our dog inside because she sheds like crazy. If we do let her in, it's in the laundry room and there is no carpet. We also don't wear our shoes in the house. That helps a lot with keeping the carpet clean.

we used to have a large vacuum cleaner and it was bulky and not easy to use. so we used it twice a week and used brushes to clean the carpets and now we have the hand held vacuum cleaner and it is so convenient and we use it to clean the sofa and other furniture that are not easy to access. but it takes a long time to charge and the battery doesn't last too long. so, we now use it after every two days and the bulky one only once a week. good luck

I have three dogs that all shed all year long. One of them has chow in her, this is equal to huskies for the obnoxious fur. I should vacuum everyday but I am too lazy, So I actually vacuum about 2 times a week. I think I am going to hold a training class here at the house to show the others in the house how to vacuum and do dishes!

I don't vacuum every day because my house doesn't get dirty very quick. I have carpeting only in the living area and the carpet does not cover the whole floor. It is put in the middle of the sofa set of 3+2+1 which I have in front of the television set. Furthermore I live in a condominium and it is the 10th floor. There is not much dust here since it is far above. Usually I vacuum once a week and there are times when I vacuum once every fortnight because there is nothing to clean, actually. I sweep once in two days but it depends on the floor itself. I have marble flooring for the living room, tiles for the kitchen and all bathroom, and parquet for the three bedrooms. It is not much dust on the floor because of the height I am living, but I sweep to get rid of hair. My hair is long and it falls all over the house therefore I have to maintain the flooring by sweeping.

japanese akita - Japanese akita dog!
I have the same problem as you. I have a japanese akita who also sheds twice a year and has usual hair loss through out the year! I vacuum at least once a day and during moulting season as often as 3/4 times a day! It drives me mad! You don't realise how much fur they actually have until they are shedding it!

Yes keeping up with the hair is a problem, add hay and mud and that's our winter. Then we have dog, cats and husband that hate the sound of the vacuum to the mix it's a wonder I'm not crazy, or maybe I am.
