(via Washington Monthly: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_11/015476.php ) Soon after McCain's campaign started, McCain and pals promised to balance the budget within McCain's first term. Then they said they couldn't actually do this. ( http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/16/us/politics/16mccain.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin ) Then they said they could. ( http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=FB652769-3048-5C12-006563F0B10EB827 ) Then they said they couldn't. ( http://thinkprogress.org/2008/07/08/mccain-deficit/ ) Then they said they could. ( http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_10/015214.php ) Then they said they couldn't. ( http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122468892454258565.html ) Then they said they could. ( http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/30/palin-balanced-budgets/ ) Then they said they couldn't. ( http://thinkprogress.org/2008/11/01/palin-promise-balance/ ) And most recently, today Palin said they could again. ( http://thinkprogress.org/2008/11/01/palin-promise-balance/ ) One would think that once would be enough to realize that they made an impossible promise, and to not bring it up again, but this campaign is so incompetent and/or full of it that they've managed to flip at least EIGHT times on ONE issue in the course of this campaign. Can any rational person take anything they say seriously given their clear penchant for saying whatever comes to mind at any given moment?
