Would You Hurt Yourself Doing This?

I just decided to test the waters and see if I could walk around my home blindfolded without bumping into something or even tripping over something or someone. I didn't do well as I thought I would. I was doing good for a few seconds until I walked smack into my bedroom door. Hey, I really thought that door was closed. Who closed that door?...That wasn't very nice. Could you pull this off mylotters? Would you come out safe on the other side? Holler at me!

I don't do it by actually getting myself blindfolded. But yes some times I test myself by not turning on the lights and getting myself a glass a of water at nights .. for this I walk all the way to kitchen from my bedroom. I did pretty good. I only hit a small of the arch in my hall. Well done girl!!

Hi miraclefreebies. I've usually tried walking with my eyes closed. I think there wouldn't be much of a difference if I was blindfolded. I was able to successfully walk from our front door until the gate without bumping into anything (without even peeking). I'll try that blindfold thing out as soon as I get home lol.

interesting... i never try to do that before... and i don't think i will as i think i will be too scared to do that... that's why i really feel for those blind people and i can imagine how dark their lives must be... i can't imagine if i am blind and can't see anything... i will feel very miserable... take care and have a nice day...

I have trouble walking around my house without blindfolds. I still hit that little toe on the corner of a table leg or hit my knee on the coffee table. There is always something in my way. I still think that things jump out in front of me. Just like a pot hole in the road. I always seen to hit them thats because they jump out in front of me. Ha ha ha

Well I suppose it depends, am I allowed to use my arms to feel for things? If not, then I don't know if I could or not. I suppose it's worth a try. I get around the house at night in almost dark (maybe a night light on in the kitchen, I say maybe because soemtimes it's turned off).

Go ahead and use those arms, it ain't considered cheating. I've seen blind people with a cane feeling around to get around. PUT THOSE ARMS OUT THERE!

Whenever we have a blackout at night,I can walk around my house and get candles and matches e.t.c. reasonably well.I can even go up and down the stairs quite well but with a good deal of caution.I put this down to the fact that I know my house very well.Do I use any tricks in doing this ? Ofcourse I do, leaning against walls, holding onto things, you know ........being sensible.Maybe, just maybe I do also have some psychic powers,a "6th Sense" Ha Ha Ha.....!!!!!LOL!!!!

I would have to clean up all the dog toys and shoes first! I think I have a pretty good idea where everything is. When I come downstairs in the middle of the night I rarely turn on the lights and I find my way around. Of course, there is dim light shining from outside but I'm pretty sure I could find my way around the house blindfolded without getting too many stubbed toes, scrapes and bruises!

I think you will do a great job fumbling around in the dark.

I have tried this until I fell over something. But it did give me some insight into what people must cope with who have little or no eyesight. Anything that can make us more aware of others is good.

You have a point. It can help us understand more about what other people go through who doesn't have the gift of eye sight. God knows how grateful I am to have mine.

No I couldn't do that I wouldn't even try it. I remember one night we had a bad storm and the power went off, I was in the bathroom looking out the window when the lights went out, when I turn around to walk out the bathroom the door was partially closed and bam I ran smack into the edge of the door. I had my eyes open and I was not blindfolded. So I know I cannot do that. And good luck to those that can and will try it.

Hi Chevee! I haven't forgot you, I'm sending you an email in the next few minutes. So we experience the same thing huh? We both got smacked by a closed door. That wasn't my idea of a good time, well not that part.

I have a hard enough time walking around my house without a blindfold. I'm always bumping into something. And heaven forbid, don't let anyone move anything out of it's place. LOL That's a good way for someone to get killed!!

Haha! I hate to be the person that moves the couch, that would be a HUGE "OUCH" for me.

I think this is one thing anyone should try just for fun. Your discussion made me realized that we can just do that kind of thing just to test ourselves, play sometimes with ourselves and just do some crazy thing. I don't think you can perfect it by not hurting yourself. But, i will try that thing to test myself and to have fun. I will do the same with my kids or my husband. I m getting excited but need to schedule it on a weekend.

Yes it is more like a fun thing for try and testing. If you test with caution, the bruises won't be as bad.

I myself have tried this one. I have also gotten my kids to try it. We did this so that we could understand what my one son goes through. I have a 14 year old boy that was blind when he was born. He does very well with getting along through my house. But I noticed that my other kids have made fun of him or bugged him about not doing things. So we made them "blind" and they saw what it is like and now have a new opinion.

That's a good way to help them understand what their brother goes through.I'm glad they see things from a different angle now.

I've a younger brother that has been blind for over 25 years now. When he first went blind I helped him get around as he refused to use the red tipped cane etc. So I had blindfolded myself many times trying to be blind to experience his problems. It took awhile but I did manage to recall the paths through the house and recvalled to always check doors as I neared them. Now today I live in a house and would have to learn all over again. It would not be easy but after a few tries I think I could manage it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I just can't imagine being blind at all,I could deal with blindfolding myself because I can take it off and see again when I want to, but I can't do that if I was blind for real.

I have given it quite a few shots and believe me I am improving on it. Now at least I manage to go around without crashing into doors. My advice to you, Keep Practicing. Good Luck.

I have a damaged optic nerve in my left eye, therefore my vision is not the best. I have tried closing my right eye to get an idea of how much sight I have in my left eye. With my right eye closed all I see are shadows of things in front of me, the peripheral vision is not there. I actually walked into my bedroom door last night too, and my eyes were opened. My eyes are the reason I do not drive at night, I would rather be safe than sorry.

I don't have the best eyesight but it's good enough to keep me from complaining, cause there are always people in worser shape than I'm in.

Hi,no miracle can make me walk around blind folded in my house....he..he...I am a stickler for neatness and am house proud. Now why should I walk around blind folded and mess up my house, and get a few bumps here and there....Its easier to let my hubby or son to walk around with their eyes wide open, and you will see what a better job they can do......ha..ha...
