What do you pay more attention when you travel to a new place?

i pay more attention to the people when i'm in a new place. i want to see how they communicate and how they welcome their visitors. i also pay attention to the foods and their delicacies.

I pay most attention to the scenery, natural like the landscape and man made like the buildings. Next I like to find out about the history and the culture. In a city I always try to find a costume doll for my collection. I have learned to consider my safety at all times so I try to arrive at my accommodation before dark and I no longer go alone to deserted beaches.

Atmosphere, then food/landmarks&locations, then the people and culture. How a place feels is most important to me, because it determines if I wanna come back to the new place, how much fun I'll have, etc.

For me it depends on how long I'm going to stay in the place, if I know that we will be staying for quite some time, I will be paying more attention of the culture, local language, food and things that are important in our stay. But if its just for few days or a week, it will be food, famous landmark and local shops for souvenirs.
