Married abroad

I got a friend who got married abroad (UK), she is a filipina married to a british man. Now that she got fed up with her husband, she wanted to go back home. Her husband told her that if she will go home to Philippines, her status is still single, because they got married in the UK and they didnt change her status and documents at the Philippine embassy. Do you think she could still get married to another man in the Philippines even if she is married in the UK?

Your friend got married in the UK and so I wonder if that means she would have to get divorced. I married my Australian boyfriend in the UK and we arranged our divorce six years later in Australia. The divorce procedure was favorable there. Your friend should check with a lawyer in the UK and a lawyer in the Philippines. Sometimes laws can apply internationally like the Hague Convention for example. Good luck to your friend. If she got married in the Philippines I am sure she would want to make sure everything was fine with what she was about to do.

No, they are not planning or wanting a divorce, they just agreed to separate each other for good without any divorce. She thought that her status ( from single to married) will be automatically change in the Philippines even they got married in the UK. But when her husband told her that it wasn't change, she is only married in the UK but not in the Philippines, I really don't understand about it completely. Now my friend is wondering if she can be allowed to get married in the Philippines.

i suggest that your friend should consult a lawyer so that all her questions will be answered...is she thinking of marrying again here in the philippines?why is she concerned about being single still in her other documents?
