No suprise that the Americans are doing it again, mystifying the masses here with their weird, weird presidential elections. In my opinion, this so-called PresidentElection is just another 4-year repetitious and stupid event! Actually China watches U.S. Election withbemusement, since mostpeople think Western-style democracy is a joke -- it's it's more like a pop idol contestor a beauty pageant. I don't really buy into the idea that is about a president should be chosen by people, because at then end the bigger picture of a nation's development is always completed by people, not the president. Obama could be a good president as well as McCain, however, neither of them has enough personal power tofundamentally influence the finacial crisis that the U.S. is currently surffering from.Maybe we should just silently enjoy this "National Movie".how about you ,what do you think??//

I don't know what you find so strange about it. It's democracy at work. If you don't think the leader of the country should be chosen by the people who should it be? Here in Canada, I would rather choose the Prime Minister of my country than to have someone chosend for me.

Get over it. The post is about the election process, not Obama, and about the difficulty of any single leader being able to actually do anything on his own. The Chinese believe, very wisely I think, in collective decision-making. Lash

well I partially agree with you, I am Egyptian and I am really surprised by how people here are interested in the US elections. I highly doubt any American would give a damn about our presidential elections and they are not to blame, a presidential elections is supposed to concern the citizens of the country only. If the economical crisis is resolved in the USA, it's not gonna get any better here. So why take all the USA elections on our nerves if the results won't have any effects on us.

I find the American system a bit confusing but Democracy is a wonderful thing. Without Democracy we would have no say in wht happens to us. The thing that I find confusing is that candidates from the same party compete for who will be chosen to run for president. In my country each political party chooses it's own candidate and then we vote for the one we want. However the American way has it's merits. I would like to have a say in which candidate will lead the party I vote for and not just which political party I want to form government.

I concern about the voting of USA not for who will be the president of America. The most thing concerned is that when will the American economic cisis be solved. When will the USD value be higher. You know now the exchange rate between the USD:CNY is 1:6.82.It puts high pressure on chinese foreign trade. For the 4-year presidentelecion is merely American event, here what i can do - wish American has more brilliant tomorrow under the leadship of Obama!

i've heard my fellow americans make almost the same comments that you've made. it seems like after the last few years younger people have become very cynical and instead of embracing hope, they feel that there is no point in voting or taking time to make any kind of choice in the election, they feel that our democracy is a joke. this opinion is based mainly on my own circle of friends and acquaintances. i don't blame anyone for their bad opinion on politics after the last 8 years! i just have a different view. i'm hoping that the reason that the rest of the world is so interested is that they feel that there are positive changes on the horizon. i feel in my heart that this is true and i hope i am right! interesting topic!
