Add the interest?? Add the interest??? FINE! I'll add the interest then! lol.

Do you find yourself adding an interest just so you don't have to keep selecting "no thanks" every time? There have been so many time where I will be active in someone's discussion and every time I reply to them I have to go throught that "Add this interest?" phase..... If there is a lot of back and forth conversation going on, then more times than not I will end up saying yes and add the damn interest just to stop being asked! lol. I have accepted some of the most unrelatable interests you can imagine at times just to eliminate this process each and every time I go to post a comment. So do you ever do the same yourself? It drives me crazy I tell ya!

It did drive me nuts as well. In the begininning i would add every single interest that i was prompted at, then came the phase of me declining all the additional interests. Now its a matter of choice, something which interest me gets added as an interest and that which does not interest me and is a one of kind of thing gets skipped. . It does get me wondering as to how many interest and sub interest are really there though.

Yes alok, "Panda Spanking"! lol. Time for something quirky I feel so watch that space! I think there are literally thousands of interest categories and sub-categories etc so no wonder we get bombarded with requests to join them. It is generally a matter of choice for me also but sometimes I do just end uop accepting any old category just to stop being asked! I am sure that I have many in my lists that I will probably never participate in again all because of this approach. Thanks for the response.

No, I don't do it as a matter of course. Two that I still hold out on are religion and politics. I am considering seriously adding politics but I don't think I ever want to add religion. I would add 'spirituality' but not religion, because I don't believe in organized religion or worshipping of a higher power. I do believe in existance of a higher power but that is not the same as worshipping and following rules and living your life in tune with such rules.

I think along similar lines as you and I am not a follower or advocate of organized religion either mommyboo; but I do take part in the occasional discussion in that interest category. Politics is also a category I participate in every now and then as well. It's kinda hard not to with the election and all! lol. Thanks for the response.

haha maybe you're just more interested than you think! Sounds like you should test the waters a bit :D Next time you accept the 'interest', go immediately there and start your own discussion and if you seriously know nothing about it, make something up and see if anyone catches ya! :-P

So it's a subliminal affliction then is it aero? lol. Maybe I might just give what you have suggested a try then? The question is WHAT interest would be totoally unexpected? I will think on this and if I get the inclination I may just try this. Thanks for the response and the suggestion.

No, I don't add an interest just for the sake of not having to do it again in the future. I like the slow and annoying process. And why do we have to be polite if we choose no? Why do we have to say thanks after NO? Why can't we just say NO, please do not ask me again or else...?

You are far more set in your ways than me then I can tell you. I can only hold out for so long before I suddenly find myself an "octopus fillets" afficionado or something! Thanks for the response.

I have added interests if it is an interest that I have but did not know about when I was adding m interests when I first discovered this place. There are SO many possible "interests" here that it is impossible to find and add every single interest that applies to you the first time. If I have responded to a Discussion not knowing that it was an interest that I had not selected and I know that I really do not share this interest for the most part then I will not add the interest. :)

I sat on the small group of interests I chose when I first joined for ages, then I ended up one day going through the choices again and adding a heap more. Then of course I have all these other interests that get added as I go along..... Your reasoning in only selecting interests that ARE actually of interest is solid EAStanley, but I end up caving in all the time because I get sick of being asked! lol. Thanks for the response.

Yes I do the same thing. Apparently I do like that interest if I keep replying under the same topic over and over again!!! But if I have said no twice I think the thing should give up asking and just let us move on already!!!

I agree with you Sketcher. Once we have said "no" a few times we should stop being asked over and over again! Just because one day we end up being active in a single interest category doesn't necessarily mean that we always will be. It should stop asking us and we can then go and find it and add it ourself at a later date if we wish. Thanks for the response.

"Nails to cows to whatnots"? Now if THAT'S a category mimpi someone may just be on to something! There are definitely some strange ones in there that's for sure. If you check on the first page of this discussion, you will see some tips on how to bypass this area. It may be worth doing that from now on to save some frustration! Thanks for the response.

No I won't add it. Especially if it has nothing to do with me. I find it pointless to do that because it is lying. Plus then it will show me topics about the interest that might not even interest me. Unfortunately I do just hit NO THANKS each time. However you're right. They need a way once we select NO THANKS it should stop asking. How about that myLot? Pablo

I just cannot seeing me added interest groups without having that interest. I still wanna see them have it where it only asks one time and then doesn't ask anymore. I mean it only ask once if you press the YES button so why does it keep having to ask again and again if we press no? Pablo

Hi James. It happenes often to me as well and some interests are really tricky to as - like Daughter or Woman (me being a man and all) so at times i choose to decline those as it would be strange to reach a leader board in interest like that.

hello james,Yes, i think a lot of members on mylot have had this kind of situation to have to choose the yes or no options.and mostly, when i post one response in some one's discussion and when i meet this condition, i will just choose add the interest to my interest list. Thus, i think i won't do it again when i meet this kind of interest discussion the next time.keep moving. happy mylotting.

Nope, I don't do that because it means I'd be swamped with unappealing topics in my "my interests" tab when looking for discussions to reply to. I just find myself laughing sometimes though, especially when I read "would you like to add 'politics' under 'things that I enjoy'?" because I can almost say "No thanks" out loud.

Yet another member with far more patience than me then SeishiroX! lol. Your reasoning is very solid but I just don't seem to have the patience and sometimes will accept some odd interest category that I KNOW I probably won't ever be active in again, just to stop myself from being asked anymore! Good news. You don't have to load up with interests you're not interested in, and you don't have to select "No thanks." Your comment has already been accepted by the time you see that, so you can skip it. I always open discussions in a new window, so all I have to do is close the window. You can do the same if you use tabs. No fuss, no bother. No interests that I could care less about.

OMG...that is such a petpeeve here with me. I hate it! It's like the only way to avoid that annoying little step is to just say "yes". Reminds me of a little kid begging for something and the parent gives in just to shut them up.

Haha, no, it doesn't botther me! I haven't added interest for more than a year! I know what it meant if I added the interst! Later, I just said no to any interest! You can say it is an inertia. You haven't added an interest for more than a year? Now THAT takes discipline! lol. Then again, if this is the case, panda spanking can't have been added because I only started that group about 10 months ago. Thanks for the response hiddenwing and now it's time for you to break this "no interest adding streak" and add panda spanking. Quickly now!

Usually when I am responding to something and the "Add your interest" question comes up, I do not add it right away. I do not add interest just for the sake of adding one. I always decide on the basis of my interest and knowledge. If such interest is not my cup of tea, then I will decline.
@James72 (26790)

I usually decline too at first, but if I'm participating in an ongoing discussion and it keeps popping up again and again, more times than not I'll select yes just so I don't get asked anymore! It's because of my impatience that I have so many interests in my lists that aren't really interests of mine at all! Thanks for the response jpso.

No, I just do what mykl does... your question prompted me to go to my interest list to check out whether I have a load of crap amongst it and was quite surprised at how restrained I seem to have been! (I'd like to think that its not because I'm a saddo with no interests but rather that I'm enthusiastic about those I have ) You'll notice the relative abscence of sports and video games....
