Hand sanitizers vs Washing with soap and water

My nieces teacher is allowing her students to use germx hand sanitizer instead of washing there hands with soap and water. She is telling the students its special soap. Here is my problem with that. Germx is not all its cracked up to be and there are alot of germs and bacteria that hand sanitizers don't kill. A hospital near where i live had to quarantine a whole wing of the hospital due to an out break of staph caused by doctors not washing there hands and using hand sanitizer. When checking on patients they would just use the hand sanitizer and ended up spreading staph to all the patients in the wing. Hand sanitizer is good in an emergency but is not equal to washing your hands with hot water and soap. I thought my niece was kidding when she told me but when i went to the school with her the teacher told me yeah she does that because the kids make a huge mess with the soap and water. To me thats not right, she should be teaching the kids to wash there hands. But what can i do, i am just an aunt to one of her students? So would you use hand sanitizer instead of washing your hands?? Do you think that practice is okay??

I use both...I use hand sanitizer when I can't get to the sink to wash my hands with soap. I also keep some on my desk and by my chair so if I am working on fabric I don't have to run and wash my hands all the time. I wouldn't worry about the teacher using a sanitizer as long as the kids still wash their hands after going to the restroom and before eating food. With winter coming alot of teachers are probably trying to cut back on germs and colds. ~~MY OWN PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF**

Oh no, I'd be contacting the school. The kids parents should be complaining to the school or you could contact the principal of the school and talk to him about it as a concerned citizen. I don't know how old your niece is but kids need to be encouraged to wash their hands as much as they can. Your right sanitizer is good as a bonus but it doesn't replace the real thing...soap and water. ~~MY OWN PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF**

I'm old fashioned i'd still use soap and water just like people always have. I mean i guess it's because my wife is a nurse and she understands that kinda thing. Hand sanitizer is good but it feels like it just drys you up way too much. Maybe i'm just picky i don't know. LOL.

I agree with you and I think I would voice my concerns to the school board. God Bless You!
