Having 2 cellphones can save your life

Have you ever considered carrying a spare cellphone with you all the time so that you would always have a backup in case one have a dead battery or you accidentally dropped one and damaged it? For most men, carrying more than one cellphone would be troublesome especially when we have limited place on our body to keep it. Ladies who carry handbags with them to all over the place may find it easier to do that. The reason I brought this up was due to a news in my local newspaper yesterday. it was about a girl who was walking home at 9pm got abducted by four men near her house. They bundled her into a car and sped off. They forced her to hand over her jewelries, cellphone and wallet at a knife-point and also y got her ATM number and withdrew some money from her account. They then took her for a joyride. When her mother called her, she was forced to tell her mother that she was out with some friends. However, that girl did not panic and pleaded to her abductors to let her use the toilet at a gas station. She went into the toilet and used her other cellphone that the abductors had missed and called the police. The police asked her to remain in the toilet and within minutes a patrol car arrived at the station and those men fled. can you imagine what could have happened to her? It is a dangerous world out there and we should always be extra careful when we are on the street. So what do you think about that spare cellphone now? Cheers!

I never thought about this I must admit. I had a spare cell phone. My brother in law needed one and I just have him mine. Thus I save him some money. he is always ready to help me when I need some help with plumbing and he saves me quite a lot of money. © ronaldinu 2008

Wow. This is incredible. But I think it's more necessary for women than man. I am not telling that we are indestrutible, but men have more chances then women. The four man were "dumb" in my opinion. Haven't them completely checked her handbag? This story sounds strange..

It goes to show that crime does not pay. They might get away this time but sooner or later, they are going to get caught. Cheers!

While in that situation I think it was really lucky that she had two cell phones, I don't think I'd ever carry two. It seems like more of a hassle than anything to me. I have one that I carry and even with a purse, I don't have room for an extra. When it comes to batteries dying and that sort of thing I always make sure I have my phone completely charged, everytime I come home I plug it in. And also it would be extra money as you would have to have a different number because each phone has a sim card with the phone information and you are only given one sim card so it would cost more money too. So, it's a good idea for in case of a situation like this young woman but I dont find it very practical.

Yup, practicality and cost are the main issues here. Cheers!

I'm not going to lie, at first when I read the little blurb I thought you were crazy. But after that story it seems like a pretty good idea. Well at least for women, I'm really not that scared because I'm not too scared about being abducted, or having my cell phone damaged.

Beruang, The story is true ref: http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews/Crime/Story/A1Story20081109-99281.html I think she was lucky too, as I cannot imagine how the assaliants had not been able to know or see that she has another phone. I always carry a spare in my briefcase as I just might not know when I may need it. After all, with the constant upgrading of phones, the old phone is still in good condition and I just could not think of any way to dispose it. So, just bring along for you just do not know when you might need it. I also have a standby phone card, just in case I loose the present phone.

Yes, it is true. I did not put the URL link in my post as it was too long and I have not reached my 500 mark yet for me to copy to myLot. Thanks for adding that link here. It was amazing that the abductors missed out the second phone. The world is far from safe nowadays... Cheers!

I never thought of having a spare cell phone for that but unfortunately i cant afford a spare one. All i can say is go back to kindergarten and its safety in numbers! I hardly go anywhere by my self because i just don't trust people at all. Everyone around me is a threat to me if i don't know them. I know not everyone is a bad person but sadly in this day and age you can't really trust anyone at all. Why was this girl walking around 9 PM by her self? She couldn't have gotten a ride or anything? Everyone just has to be more careful when they are out by their self and DON'T TRUST ANYONE!!! Even if i have to go to the store real quick to pick something up if someone from my house can't go with me i will go out of my way to pick my one friend up to go with me. I seriously don't go anywhere by my self. My other friend asked me before also if i ever went anywhere by my self and my exact words where "Yes when i go to pick Laura up to go out with me." Of course she looked at me like i had 12 heads but i rather be safe then sorry! Also before getting in your car look in your back seat and make sure no one is in there!

Hi Beruang! I never thought about that carrying two mobile phone can save our life, until you share the story and thanks for that. I have two mobile phones, but I guess the other one is broke, the battery only last for at least 4 hours without talking and I just bought a new battery for that, so I guess the problem is the phone. So I only carry one mobile phone with me and I might take the other one in the repair shop. Have a nice day.

i have two mobile phones too.. one is quite expensive while the other one is just a basic phone.. I always make sure to bring my back up phone with me since the expensive one gets drained easily.. yay! when making phone calls i use the basic handset as it lasts for one to three days with fair use of SMS and phone calls..

I think if you wanna have a spare, it should be a pay as you go phone... Otherwise you pay for it too much... I mean, how often are you in that sort of situation?

I agree with Beruang's statement I usually carry two hand phones/cell phones in different places. Since sometimes I take notes of new ideas or incidents I carry a small bag to put my notebook. In this instance one hand phone goes into this bag/holdall while the other remains in my top pocket.

Wow, thats a good story, I have more than one cellphone but i always put it in the same place, i guess i well now separate it just in case like what you said. Emergency purposes. I never thought that it can be good to have more than one cellphone at the same time. Honestly i am planning to buy a phone with dual sim for it is very convinient to handle. But what you said, i think it is better to separate it. Happy posting.

I have two cellphone just as a matter of standby. In case one cellphone runs out of battery and I have an extra one. These days we can easily get both HP and number very easily and cheap. But after reading your post, only now I realise the importance of having two. Thank goodness, nothing happens to her.
