What I would do is look at the different operating systems XP and Vista, and if the system meets all the specs I would put that OS in it. Now it also depends on do you all ready own an Install CD for XP then install XP if not you will need to go with Vista XP is supposedly taken off the shelf

Go for Windows XP professional, you will always get updates for the latest security in terms of security.Dos is an old fashioned OS and i think you should forget about it. Windows vista i would say you will only have to buy new devices than you already as most of them might not be supported by Vista. When installing Vista there some certain requirement needed as compared to XP, things like the minimum 512 of RAM, i mean on XP that size of RAM is recommended but with Vista is the minimum Again Vista require lot of hard disk space for its installation only, i think 3GB of hard disk space after a complete installation I would suggeat you go for Windows XP

Keep in mind, vista is gobbling resources like hell. You need a quick machine with enough Ram to run it properly

For a stable operating system, I'd go for Windows XP. Vista is known to be buggy with quite a bit of software. Also, let's face it: Vista is Microsoft's alternative to Apple's creamy looking GUI's.
