I killed Santa!

Yesterday I admitted to my almost 8 year old son that Santa is not real. He was not too bummed about it. My daughter does not understand the whole Santa thing yet, but I told him not to ruin it for her. Have you killed Santa yet? At what age do you tell them?

Last year, then I took my words back. My son was only 5 and when I said that Santa wasn't real, he looked at me like he was disgusted in what I said - I think he was about to cry so I just said I was joking. I'm not sure if that was the right way to handle it but you should of seen his face afterwards when I said I was joking - a huge big smile on his face. Boy did I regret saying that. When he's ready to hear it, I will tell him.

After I told him I asked him if he was glad I told him or if he would have preferred I wait a few more years to tell him and he said he was glad I told him.

I think my boys were about 9 or ten when they knew the truth. Actualy, it was the kids at school that told the, I had to make them promise not to spoil it for their sister so that she could enjoy some of the magic. It is so fifficult for them but also for us as parents too. Let them have the first few years of magic. We shouldn't rob our children of this magic. I think that your son is the right age and I am sure that he won't spoil it for your daughter. Blessings!

No I haven't. My daughter believes in him whole heartedly. I think it is good for her to have something magical. Childhood ends all too early these days. I have a 14 year old niece who refuses to hear anything negative about Santa. May not be such a bad thing for a few adults in this world to keep some of that magic in their hearts. I don't know when I will tell my kids.

I think that is up to the parents but children or very smart and they do talk at school and else where so they will find out somewhere,my granddaughter recently found out,she is 8 so maybe that is a good age but I myself say keep them little as long as possible and 10 is a good age.You have a great night.
