You need to take a look at snopes.com., I just checked your post there and it is highly unlikely that this happened and this is a rumor that has been circulating for a long time. I think thay said it was a rumor that went back to 1979. My understanding is that this combination would cause a lot of distress but not deadly because the force of the fizz forces the mouth open and the fizz comes out and is not contained in the stomach. Sounds highly unplesant does it not.

That was so tragic. Never thought as simple as taking cola and candy can end somebody's life.
