Internet is the best thing that came out. You get so much good information. I was wondering if I wanted to keep my internet on, can I get rid of the phone and still have my Internet Service. I really don't want the phone it is a extra bill. and not only that I still have my Cell Phone. but I guess you have to have the phone to get the internet? I have A.T. & you know what I am trying to say I don't want to use there name. I know you need a phone line. to get the Internet. Fast speed anyway. Tell me what you think? tThanks in advance.

it is not mandatory to have a phone connection to have internet access. you can get it from your TV cable guy. or from a private company. getting a seperate line for internet is good only if u dont need phone connection. or else internet with the phone line is cheap i guess as the bills are given together these days.

You can have internet without having the phone line but its depends upon the services available in your area. If you want DSL for that you would need a phone line. It connects you to internet without dialing any number and so it doesnt cost you to get connected. If you use dial up then it cost you one local call atleast. So if your phone company dont have line rent for your line then DSL is fine otherwise it would cost you the line rent atleast. Check out if there are cable internet avaiable. Also check for WiFi a new wireless technology, there are wireless CDMA internet too. Just check out in area what kind of internet services available and then decide. Also keep the speed of internet in mind when looking for the internet services. Some cost on the amount of data you download(limited pacakges), keep that in mind too.

I have DSL....no phone line needed. We use our cell phones. We have the fastest that the company we use offers. Its not the greatest since its just a small local company. I live in an extremely rural area where none of the larger companies is available. So we can't be picky. But we don't have a phone with our internet.

I have cable and don't know much about DSL other than that cable is supposed to be faster. My cable is cheaper if you have both the cable Internet and basic TV than if you have just the Internet. And, of course you don't have to have phone service from a phone company to have cable Internet. You do have to have a cable modem which usually you can either lease from the cable company or buy, in the long run buying is cheaper. Also, if you really want to, you can get phone service through most cable Internet services but it cost extra. If you don't have cable internet where you live, then you may be stuck with having to have a phone.

I have DSL and I have to have a phone line with it, as far as I know you have to have a phone line to have internet. Now they have satellite internet and I'm not sure if you need a phone line for that one but I'm sure you will get an answer soon we have a lot of smart people on myLot.

I don't have a phone line but I do have internet through our cable company. We did have a period of time where we did not have cable tv but we kept the internet on (we were economizing).

I do not use the phone for my Internet Service. I have Comcast cable internet service and I believe you cannot get a faster service than that.

I agree and I am so glad to be able to use it to earn from home. I think you have to have a phone line to have the internet even though DSL or satellite does not tie your line up. I'm not positive though.

Marcia, I had the same thoughts a couple of month back, so I called my phone company. The way it works is this, they leave your phone service, but only charge you for internet. You can still receive calls on your home phone, but the only calls you can make on it are 911 and 800 calls. Now the only thing I hated about it was that I no longer had caller ID, or Voice Mail. So I did call and have those added back, which to do that I had to add local service back, so still paying much less than full service, but have what I want too. Hope this helps, Blessings Marilyn

Yes, you can get rid of your phone, the handset and so forth but you have to keep the phone line. You can just unplug the phone from your socket. You don't have to make any calls on your phone anymore, you can stop using it. Anyway, good luck. Andrew

well that depends on the country's phone provider. There are companies which block your phone line and just charge you for the internet. IF they do that you can call them now and ask them to block your phone.

In our country you can get internet without a telephone connection.. The internet can be given to the subscriber via cable line.. You only need to pay monthly rental and they have different plans.. The cable internet is operated by the local cable guy...

You can get high-speed internet through cable. I haven't had a landline in years, I just use my cell. I love cable internet though, it works great.

Marcie you can get the internet thru the cable if you have that. Thats how I get my internet. I think you can also get it thru satelite tv too. I would check on the cost with the cable company. That might be cheaper then with the phone. You can get bundled services with the cable and with the phone company. You can get a house phone, cell phone and internet for one price. Everyone is trying to cut their bills. I just got call waiting and caller ID taken off my phone. I miss it but I need that money for another more important bill. Good luck Marcie

If you need a phone line to get the internet then obviously you can't get rid of it. The net is worth it always and you should always try to keep that. Just use the phone less and see if you can reduce the bill that way.

hi marcia, you can still have an internet connection without landline phone... you can apply for a broadband, it's quite pricey but worth it.. i used to utilize my mobile phone's 3G connectivity when connecting to the internet.. you can use your 3G mobile phone as a modem to connect.. you just have to configure the settings of your phone, install the cd then voila, after setting up everything, you can now enjoy browsing your favorite sites using your computer or laptop..

Of course , we can get rid of the phone so that cast off extra bill, merely maintain the cable to usr internet connection in China. Now so do I. I use cell phone to contact others, and use cable internet for my computer in order to get fast speed of it.
