My friends all know that my roomie is interested in mummies and bog bodies. Well, she shared this site with me of some bog bodies. If you click on the pictures they blow up in a new window. Now, these people were killed before their bodies were put in the bogs. I, because I love history and because of the roomie's fascination with bog bodies, but what all they did is kind of amazing, in a gruesome sort of way, of how much punishment a body could survive. Anyway, here is the link to the site: http://www.archaeology.org/online/features/bog/violence1.html

Heehee..I'm familiar with the bog bodies. Most were found in Denmark and are thought to have been sacrificial victims of the early Vikings. I actually have a short story idea kicking in my mind using the bog body concepts...LOL. The preservation of the bodies is fantastic though, better than the Egyptian mummies, don't you think?

Well, actually most of these pre-date the Vikings, tho it may be their ancestors that did it.

I guess I don't have a problem with it. The Egyptians thought so long as your name was remembered, you lived. Well, they tried to wipe Tut out, but he survives and is best known of all. So, these poor people were murdered/sacrificed but they "survive" while their killers are long gone!

Interesting site... wish there were more photos of each individual because I found it difficult to see some of what was described in the commentary.

I agree, but it is still a very interesting site. Most of these I hadn't seen any pictures for before.

Bog bodies are interesting, it makes me wonder why the body does not decay in the bog. I know the facts it just amazes me.

Well, the tannins in the water basically tan the body, but the bones desolve so they are swashed.
