How do you handle inconsiderate housemates?

Hello people! It has been quite a while...actually it has been too long! I've been having a hard time getting along well with my housemates (since I work away from my province, I live with acquaintances during the weekdays and go back home to the province around twice a month). I usually don't get a good sleep because they either have the television turned up or they're entertain loud guests. I'm thinking about moving out (not only because I want a good night's sleep for a change, but also because I realized that they can kick me out anytime they want since they're friends and I'm just an acquaintance). Ever had the same sad experience?

I've never had that experience but I know someone who has. Are you paying part of the rent? If so, then you have as much right to be there and feel at ease as the rest of your housemates do. Certain rules and guidelines have to be put in place and followed by every member of the household. If you are not paying rent, then I'm sorry to say that you are at their mercy. But you don't have to be. You can look for another place to stay, be it a room, a dormitory, or a studio unit. What's important is that it fits your budget. Just remember that if you're going to share a space with other people, set down the rules from the very beginning. Good luck!

Of course I'm paying rent haha I don't think I can be THAT thick. I mean I'm not judging other people who do stay in for free, but I don't want to be a freeloader because that entails so little security. I pay my fair share of the expenses including rent and utilities, however, I'm not getting my money's worth because I can't get good sleep many nights (but last night I did, THANK GOD - they woke me up but I was able to slip back into the dream world).

Sorry I asked, but it just seems that they're not being respectful or courteous to you.

I have experience similar living condition. I just try to be appreciative of the fact you have a place to stay until other wise. It is not easy but stay focus on leaving and having your own and work hard to never end up in that situation again. I think I am really speakin to myself. LOL

We'll both get through! I searched for a good place to stay for almost a month. It's much farther from my office and getting to and from is also more difficult. But if it's what I have to do to assure myself that I'd get enough rest after a tiring day at work, I won't mind. Not even when it's more expensive.

yes its time to go you are right they can throw you out anytime they want especially when they are being inconsiderate when you are there, they have to realize you live there and probably want to get rest when you do come home.

I'd like to think that though they haven't been the nicest housemates, they wouldn't go as far as kick me out... then again, I don't know them that well...

Hi oyen, I had that experience in the past and it's not easy! I used to just cover my ears and learn to tolerate their noise when I want to sleep!

my housemates work graveyard shifts so im alone at night, i come home they're still asleep, i wake up they're still out, so i can still sleep well. but i had lived with other housemates before when i was the one working graveyard shifts and when they come home, im still sleeping and they will turn the tv so loud and they will be chatting, i didn't get much rest at that house so i moved out.
