Do you participate in operation Christmas Child? If you do what sorts of things do you put in the boxes? I haven't participated in the last couple years. I used to when i was in school but I never seem to get the box in before they are due in. I saw a lady today getting little watches and toothbrushes some pretty papers and stuffed toys to go into the boxes. She says she does one for each of her kids.

Salvation Army - Their red collection bucket.
I have never heard of mthis program you write about. But years ago my wife and I were in bad shape financially when our kids were small. We could not afford a lot for gifts at the holidays etc. So we used the services of Salvation Army each holiday season. We would get 2 gifts for each child, a check for foods for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Sop now each time we pass the red pails at stores etc we always donate a lot of change etc. As miush as we can actually. I did buy some toys one year for the Toys For Tots program. I used their services so now I help others be able to use them as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Thats awesome. I tend to buy extra canned foods and put them in the bins for the shelter. What are the red pails for?

My church does this.We call it Lotty Moon. Each of the Sunday school classes picks an age group and we each put things in a shoebox according to the age group. For example, if our age group is 6-8 we put in pencils, rulers, calculators, kleenex, small toys, etc., whatever is age appropriate. We usually have a lot of luck with this program and everybody participates.

So is this done just around the holidays? Or is it also done at the start of the school season? I can't recall anything like this when my kids were in school many years ago. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I have not participated in that program. But come holiday time when I shop I look to see if they are collecting presents at the store. Most of the time I buy some thing and put it in on my way out. In fact the dollar tree near me does it and every time I go there I put some thing in it. I also donate to food drives as often as I can. Even if its just one can of corn I try to always put some thing in!
