Choices about protecting others

I like World War II movies and history, as well as 1984, and I read how some of the Allies were hidden by the French or the Jews were smuggled out or hid by the Dutch, etc. and even some Germans helped the Allies or the Jews. It led me to think what if America lost its freedom, suppose a dictator arose and was so popular than most fell for his line. Now supposing you fell for him, and someone who had spoken against this man knocked on your door at the middle of the night, would you let him in and save him? Remember that in Stalinistic Russia and in Nazi Germany, you had a duty to report anyone who was against the state and if not, you would be arrested. Now I know you will talk about the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and whatever amendments, but supposing the new laws went through the courts and not through congress and the dictator had his own private army. So what would you do? I would never vote for a dictator anyway so of course I would help someone who was fleeing him.

I'm with you! Now, my roomie kept expecting "W" would invoke marshall law, I kept telling her she was being silly, but she expects the worst from the right. I, on the other hand, expect the worst from the left - but I don't expect them to invoke marshall law, just tax us into the poor house!

You got that right! (or left as the case may be.) I do fear that the left doesn't want to give up power, but so far (anyway) they've given way to the elections. I just hope they continue to do so.

That is what happened in Canadian, they bypassed parliament (this is equal to your congress) and passed the bad laws through the court. I am afraid it will happen in the States and will be more frequent so I expect that there might be people freeing because one of those courts might say it is all right for there to be a civilian army and they might decide to go after anyone who does not agree with them. So I would help anyone who is in danger.

Well it isn't right to condemn a person for their feelings about things. I know if it was me I would want someone to help me. So yeah I be there to help. Might get me killed but I would do what is right.

I would help anyone. I mean it might be that we will have to if the future president does not listen to those who tell him to be careful and appoints radical judges who will make laws through the courts that go against the American people.

I would never vote for a dictator either. I do not think anyone should have their own private army. It should be all for one, one for all.

There should only be a regular military force and no president should have his own private army of civilians to enforce his rule. So I would protect anyone who is fleeing injustice.

I would let him rescue me as long as I did not think it was the enemy testing me.

I suppose if you were fleeing, you would have no idea whether the person letting you in was really working for the bad guys. But if I were the person in that house and someone came to my door and there were armed men shooting obviously at him, I would let him in.

I promised myself long ago to walk with the angels on this one should it ever arise. If I get killed for doing so, so what? God loves martyrs; they get first dibs on Heaven, along with virgins! :o) I =sort of= DID have the chance once, with an animal. I'd promised myself NEVER to hand another cat to an abusive woman I knew if she ever asked me to. You see, I DID that once, & she killed the poor darling in an insane & brutal manner. I didn't expect to EVER get the opportunity to keep that promise, but life's a funny thing. It DID happen, & I would have lied like a sailor, if forced to, to save this new cat's life. I didn't have to lie, but I WOULD have. I just told her I couldn't give her "her" cat back, & kept the little lady myself. Maggiepie

We should all protect the innocent whether it is animals or people. So I would protect anyone who was fleeing from injustice. I just hope it never comes to that that injustice or persecution comes in America or Canada.
