Fire Safety Feature In Cigarettes?

Okay I am a smoker. Yes even with bronchial asthma I smoke. But it's a habit/addiction I have yet been able to kick. Any how the government, here in the US anyhow, has passed a law for the manmufacturers of cigarettes. Come the start of 2009 cigarettes are to be made with some new product added inside to prevent them from starting fires. Many deaths are attributed to a smoke falling in a bed etc and starting a deadly fire. Well I noticed just recently with my smokes that if it sits in the ashtray lit and not smoked that after about a minute it goes out on it's own now. This is a great thing I feel. But I do notice a sort of new sweet taste to them. This is more than likely the product added. Anyhow I just wanted to share this. What do youi think of this added feature/safety product? Have you noticed it in your smokes if toy smoke that is? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

If it will work then I think it is a great idea. Might also save a lot of land and homes along with lives since so many are thrown out the window when driving down the road. Have you heard if the price will go up with this new added feature? Since I quit smoking I will have to ask my husband if he has noticed a different taste, but it might not be down here yet, it seems like more new products take forever to make it down here.

eah it is a great idea I feel. I will get used to the new taste before long. Hopefully I can quit before then though. Not an easy task. I've tried maybe 5 times this year alone. Someday when I know the time is right it will happen I am sure. Thanks also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I'm glad they did that. Saves alot of lives. I have noticed the sweet taste. I've tried to kick the habit many times and i was sucessful for months but then i missied it too much and was like , well i'll have one every now and then. And then just gave in to regular smoking. It becomes a part of you and our actions are learned and developed into behaviors which become a part of the person.

I have heard of this, and I think it is a good safety feature. However I do wonder, and hope that the new additive is not going to be even worse for the health of people. Both for the smokers and for the people around them. I hope this is not a cure that is worse than the problem.

My husband stopped smoking on November 1st (touchwood) and even though he did take a puff of one 7 days later, which I must say made him sick, he has never picked up another smoke again. It's only been 13 days but he is hanging in there. I'm not sure if he even noticed this before he stopped, but it seems like a good idea to me.

Hi GRANDPA BOB, We haven't got that here yet, but in 2009, the goverment is printing a picture of lung that looks, well you can imagine on the packets and all sorts of nasty looking inside of a smoker's body. I somke as well but I will give them up when I am ready, not when they tell me to stop. Tamara

I heard about this last year and as early as last spring had friends commenting on it. I don't smoke so I have no idea how this affects people - other than the safety thing. My friends did say though, that it makes them smoke more because they're smoking it faster so it doesn't "turn off". They feel that they used to leave a lot of it burn down, but now they have to relight it if they wait, so they keep smoking it all. That's kind of a drag if it's making people smoke more...

I am an ex smoker. A convert who believe that smoking should be banned altogether. I do think that the newly introduced measure is a good procedure. However if I had the influence I would try to ban them altogether. © ronaldinu 2008

I hope that people do not fall asleep smoking , but I do think since there unfortunutley alot of people who do this is a good idea. I do not want people to die in fires. Lucky for me I do not smoke. I am all for making anything safer.

No, I haven't noticed it, but that's probably due to the fact that I live in Mexico. But anyways, it's good to make the aqcaintane of another sinner. By the way, did you know that we smokers are actually good for the common good? A study by a goup of scientists in Holland found out that those who don't smoke, watch their eating habits and work out regularly, are costing society far more money than us smokers. They live far longer, and when they get sick in old age, they are sick longer and costing the health care system, and thus society, far more than us LOL.

they do taste different. marlboro red in particular doesn't seem to be quite the same. i like the idea of it going out,but i'll tell you-i have had more fly embers from these cigs drop and do a quick burn on my skin than i ever had with the old style.it's really annoying.

I'm a smoker too Grandpa Bob for I haven't figured out how to kick the nasty habit yet. With all that's going on in our lives, it's a wonder!! People try to talk me into quiting and I tell them to walk a mile in my shoes and see if you can do it until then, shut up about it. lol About this safty feature, I didn't know this but I did notice that there was a different taste but had no idea what it was. I think it's a good idea as long as it doesn't do us more harm. I know, I know, I'm already doing myself harm but why should it be made worse, ya know?

I have heard about this from my mom. I dont smoke so I dont have any idea about the difference, but I was wondering if you know what they put in it to do this? I am concerned that the new ingredient may be harmful to the smoker. What do u think?
