Do migraines run in your family?

I know in my family my grandmother always had migraines, my mom did and still does, some aunts and uncles, now me, my brother, and my sister have migraines all the time. I'm sure some can be avoided with the right amount of rest because in our family we all work hard and don't get enough sleep. It's terrible though because when I get a headache I can't get rid of it for a few days. I don't think any of the family has ever been tested or anything like that but it concerns me because I don't want my children to go through the same thing. Does this run in your family and have you done anything about it?

My Dad had migraines until he was in his mid-30's. I just found that out a few months ago, my Mom didn't even know that lol I get migraines and every now and again my son gets bad headaches. Mine - like my depression - are primarily hormone related. Although in the last year or so I have been getting tension headaches as well. There really isn't anything that I am aware of that you can do.

I was diagnosed with migraines when i was 8 years old. My son who is now 8 gets headaches from time to time and he gets sick like i used to when i was his age so i think he might have them as well he just doesnt get them as often as i did when i was 8. I think my mom used to get them as well if im not mistaken. But yea they run in mine. i know.. its horrible!!! i hate migraines and wouldnt wish them on my worst enemy

I have been getting migraines since I was 10. Nobody in my immediate family gets them but my Aunt on my Dad's side and my Great Aunt on my Dad's side (RIP) get them, but not until they were older. My Mom got one once while on vacation a few years ago, but never again.

No, I have been lucky enough in this, i have never had even normal head ache, i hardly remember when i had head ache last time. But i have seen people suffering from it. I think it needs proper treatment from a qualified amd not like taking pain killers anytime when you have pain.

Hi...this sounds really bothering to me as I have recently discovered the I am suffering from Migrain. My mom too used to have it...And once I get a headache, I really cannot concenterate on anything. Mine is still curable and am thankful to the almighty for that. I would suggest that you should try our some Yoga to get rid of Migrain. Yoga is the best medicine and will help you and your heirs to get rid of this.

It's interesting. I'm the first person in my family to be diagnosed with migraines. Talk about family history not helping! I wish I knew what genetically predispositions one to have them over another.

Migraines run in my family. Mom had them and passed the gene to me. I started having them when I was four years old. My daughter started having them when she was 6, and my grand daughter started having them when she was 5. Migraines aren't just from not enough sleep. Triggers can be from food, light, stress, noise and even a certain odor. One thing I found that does help is to take a B2 vitamin daily. They seem to curb the migraines a lot...only one thing from the B2, you pee is turned a bright yellow!!! LOL. But the yellow pee is noting in comparison to having the incidents of migraines reduced by a good 60% Another trigger is if your back is out of alignment. I get bad ones when my neck is out of alignment or if I slept wrong on it. I am doing light exercising to keep the muscles in condition so that I don't have back alignment problems. I don't know if this helps any, I hope it has.

Yes, migraines run in the family. I believe that this is hereditary. My Mom gets them worse than anyone! I have had some, but not as bad, but still pretty bad. And I have Aunts and other family members who also have migraines. So, yes, it runs in the family.
