Beggars Forum

Nobody likes to beg. What if there's a forum that gives away money to the needy? However, it only gives money to the person who is in desperate need of money. Do you need money? Tell us what you will do with the money and why you deserve to be the winner assuming that I'm the owner of the forum. Play with me :)

Well actually these already exist in many different ways. There are the bloggers who write their stories irresponsible credit management and turn them into "begging". One woman made millions. Then there are the person to person lending sites where individuals who cannot otherwise get loans can tell their stories and individuals fund those loans.

Really Ivald? Where? Care to share? If there really ARE such sites, hard to believe, but I surely do wish I could go there. I CAN prove my situation. If nothing else, I'd give my bank permission to reveal what ISN'T in my (now NEGATIVE) "balance!" Plus I still have the bogus paperwork from the scammers! Maggiepie

The site is www.prosper.com They are set up as a people to people lender. I am a lender on the site. They are currently in a quiet period as they applying FCC status right now. But they are a very cool site. Most loans are approved, no matter the status of the borrower.

Hi, curiousman.. I would need the money for my boyfriend's eyes. He has an eye ailment called Retinitis Pigmentosa which unfortunately doesn't have a cure yet. He had this since birth, and can you imagine he started wearing eyeglasses at the very early age of 10 months. He can go blind soon and only time can tell. He's taking in lots of supplements to prolong his eyesight. A lot of people may they be young or old already gone blind because of this RP. There are some experiments/studies about stem cell. So far that's the closest 'cure' for this illness but still ongoing research. So, I would need the money for the research of this stem cell or any other steps or ways that can cure RP patients. Thanks!

Thanks, maggipie.. This Retinitis Pigmentosa is hard to cure (no cure) since it's the retina that are affected, unlike the cornea which can be treated by lasers. Retinitis Pigmentosa is considered the disease of the mind and not actually the eyes. The receptors are not functioning well, hence disabling sight. Anyway, I'm glad that your cataract has been cured. It's so hard to live in darkness.

I hope for his sake that this is ADULT stem cell research, as the =embryonic= ones have never produced cure ONE, while the FORMER has given us MANY! So look into that! And pray for him. I will. I had cataracts a year ago, & was so blind I even couldn't see colors 'til a wonderful doctor operated on them. I realize your friend's problem's different, but I'm just saying, I can relate. I know how it feels not to see! Maggiepie

I would join your site not to beg but to fund it. Technically, how would you determine if the person really needs money. I could tell you now that I really need some amount to pay something so I would be able to live and earn back what you have given me. I can invent and make horrific stories just to convince you that with your help could have an impact for my needs. But trust issues really matters when it comes to this kind of situation. What more if it is done online. You know what I'm saying. Now, I'm playing with you in a more serious manner.

I believe it could and probably be done but I am not a tech savvy person so I have no say as well but I could understand them if translated in simple English. To be cautious indeed, cannot be ignored. I have followed your stories, by the way.

Its true, you're right, I agree. It would indeed be difficult to determine genuine need from greed. Some sort of proof system could be introduced, although I haven't thought that through so cannot make a suggestions as to how that could be done. Suffice it to say, great caution would be required.

I nearly missed this discussion. Hi curiousman, you know my situation, did you have me in mind when you wrote this post? I will be brief for the benefit of other readers. I lost my job in Feb, took the company to court, case was in Sept, won the case but cant get the money. Not been allowed to work legally during the waiting process, not been able to claim benefit during the waiting process, have begged from family, friends and received help from complete strangers. There are some VERY kind people in this world, you know who you are. My need for money is to pay rent, feed myself (talking of which im pretty hungry right now) and feed my dogs. Please dont feel sorry for me, I will get through this, I just need to work harder and smarter and am getting help with that too.

I am in desperate need of $3,000 to pay my husband's hospital bills. He sprained his ankle during a college soccer game. Before the season started, he was uninsured, and asked me to get insurance for him so he could play soccer for school. I called up State Farm (who we have car insurance from and who I get my health insurance from) and asked them what my options were. I told them that he needed insurance for school for soccer. The rep signed him up for a temporary 6-month health insurance with a $500 deductible and no co-pay that started immediately and told me that they'd be sending us the information by email and we'd be getting the insurance cards in the mail. Well, they did send us the policy through email, but we weren't able to log into the policy information because whoever set it up put the wrong zip code. So my hubby called the insurance company after he sprained his ankle and asked why they haven't sent the cards yet, and they said that no one requested for them to send anything by mail. When we got the insurance information by mail we found out that they do not cover any injuries from inter-collegiate sports!!!! And they denied all of our claims, including the ambulance bill!! So now we're stuck with this 3,000 dollar bill because we got screwed over by State Farm. I don't know what to do.

Instead of saying noone likes to beg. I suggest "noone likes to ask" Because there is a lot of people that do need money, but lots are to proud to ask. Ask for help that is. They feel they have to do it all themselves even if they are going lower and lower in debt.

Well, if you have such a forum set up, I bet you would get lots of members. I think most people will come out with stories on how badly they need money and you can find many pity and sympathy cases in the members who have joined the site. Well, I guess the one who will be able to sell himself will get his money even though his case might not be a genuine one!

I've long ago decided if I were ever to get rich (like THAT'S gonna happen! ROTFL!), I'd give most of it to charity & invest all but enough to live on modestly. What else is being rich FOR, any way? As sad as it is you are probably right the person to get it would be the one to best sell himself. so if there really was something like that it would work best to be able to find out if the reason someone gives and the why are really true or if they are just making it up just to get even more money than what they already have.

Hi Curiousmen, and all, First, in answer to this post, I would use money to pay my bills and pay off a few debts I have. Then, perhaps I might spend some of it on myself, but bills etc. come first. to Ritz100, That really sucks! I know you will get through it, but I also know the response was not hypothetical. I think you have a point, it is the encouragement and true kindness from others that matters, not your so-called friends that avoid you when you are down like that. To the other poster: We live in an info age, so kindly don't put everyone together, as you can still be broke and have a computer.

Not a bad ideal. You would then need to invite rich people to join the forum also. Like go to Myspace and find these rich people and add them as friend then get to know them then ask them to join this forum and tell them they would get a tax break if they donate to the needy etc. I think Paris Hilton has a myspace. She would be the first person on my list to invite to the beggars forum. And she like's to give money to people. I've seen her do it many times...

A Beggars forum is interesting. Some years ago, in Reader's Digest, there was an article on a group that did just that thing. If you were in real, desperate need for something, you would write into the group, state the need, verification of the need, and then they would go over the list and make their decision. I wasn't in need then. I always figure that if it's a bill that is past due, then there's always some other way you can scrape up the money. There are agencies, organizations and churches for that. If I had to think about what I was in desperate need of now it would have to be a scooter. I am disabled. I can't walk long distances because of severe, chronic peripheal vascular disease (PAD). Because I am young, in my 40's and my insurance will not pay for it, I can't afford one on my own. I currently have one, but that's because a great friend gave me hers. She had one that she just didn't feel comfortable in and she knew that I was getting depressed because I was becoming housebound because of my legs. She was getting one that better suited her. I was and at times can still be a very active person. I was an activist for the elderly and disabled in my building and at one time the president of our association. When I get the flare up of clots or ulcers to my legs and have to be on bed rest I just get so frustrated. I can't even go and check my own mail, do my own laundry or do simple shopping. The one I have has been a godsend, but it is becoming worn out because this last summer, when I got it, I went everywhere I could go. It is great, but it's coming to an end for me and when it goes, I'm in the same position that I was in before, housebound. So, if this was a real person that may have an idea to help those that are unable to get the things that they are in desperate need of, then I would say that I may fit the bill. DCMerkle

Heck, I have similar problems & I'D vote for you! That's because I understand how it is. I'm virtually housebound even THOUGH I have a Hoverround (free). If I didn't have a Girling helper, I wouldn't be able to do the things YOU find problematical as well. Is there any sort of home health organization you could tap into, such as Girling? My helper is wonderful, though I must dmit, a lot of the previous ones weren't. Still, you know the old line: "Beggers can't be choosers." But I couldn't have CHOSEN a better helper than Elic. She's also my best friend; we met LONG before I became disabled. It was as though we were separated at birth! I hope you can find help, dear. Don't lose heart. As someone said, there ARE a lot of kind people out there. Maggiepie

Hi! I actually recently came across a site similar to what you are describing that helps people with bills etc that come up. the members there "donate" points for people and once the goal amount is reached they pay the bill for the person. I think this is kind of what you are talking about isn't it?
