How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?

Okay, this really isn't about Tootsie Roll Pops... nobody knows that answer! We ALWAYS bite them before the outside part is gone! This is about ratings. I've been experimenting with someone on my friend's list. I wanted to see how many positive (or negative) ratings it would take before it affected someone's rating here. I've been giving one person on my friend's list positives for days now (he doesn't know I'm doing this... no one does, or did, until now. LOL). His rating hasn't changed! Does anyone know? Not that I'm really trying to change his rating, it's just that I'm curious. This question popped up in a discussion earlier and that's what got me wondering. I've also been accused of making someone's ratings go down recently and that's simply not true! I'm not vengeful or hateful. If I disagree with someone that much, I just want to leave them alone and want them to leave me alone. Don't worry, I wouldn't DARE think of giving anyone a negative rating! I only give positive ratings. If I don't care for a person's answers, I just don't rate them at all. But, since I was accused, I got curious to see just how many ratings it would take to make someone's number change. I mean, I've given this guy at least 100 positive ratings and his hasn't changed at all! Does anyone know? Have you tried this, to get someone's rating raised? (I don't even want to KNOW you if you've tried to get someone's rating lowered unless they specifically asked for it!) Wouldn't it be nice if the rating system just disappeared? Heck, I don't even like giving (or getting) best responses! Every response is unique in it's own way so how can we really choose?

2 for me. I have no idea as far as what it takes actually to up a rating. Making one go down seems alkl too easy here though as we've all seen and or experienced. I have always thought that getting BRs help. But this month alone I've gotten maybe 20 BRs and my rate is still stuck at the same spot it has been. There does need to be a drastic change with the star rating system if it stayed. I think we should be rated to myLopt admin and not others actually. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I think the star ratings is more of a popularity contest or actually more so a non popularity contest is all. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Grandpa Bob, I couldn't agree more! It does seem like a popularity contest! I wish the rating system would just go away... POOF! Yeah, I was attacked by the trolls before and it sure doesn't seem to take much to bring the ratings down. I think there are several other reasons why they go down besides trolls, too. It might be deleted discussions we've either started or responded to, you think? I get a lot of BRs myself and it has never affected my rating as far as I could tell. MyLot could get rid of THAT little feature as well! I mean, it can brighten your day, but it's like each discussion is a contest and whoever wins gets the BR! I don't like that. You're not the person whose ratings I've been trying this out on (sorry!), but I always give you a positive rating! You're an icon here! mssnow, maybe it IS myLot! Well, this proves your theory, Grandpa Bob, about it being all to easy to bring the ratings down! Winterrose said she thinks it's 25 to bring it down. I KNOW I've given this one member at least 100 positives and it hasn't budged! This is not fair! MyLot, PLEASE get rid of the rating system! Take the BR thing along with it! Hey, I'm going to write to them right now and ask them to do that. I'm sure others have also done it. Maybe, if they get enough requests, they WILL do away with the rating and BR systems!

I am not sure but my guess would be that you would need more than one person to rate you positve for it to go up. and the same for it to go down. I have had the same rating on mine for over 7 months now. So not sure if Im being rated at all anymore lol.

Mine has been the same for ears actually. Not moved up nor down in ages. Odd how this occurs. Seems the only big changes are downward movements doesn't it? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I agree! I've seen so many members ratings drop for no apparent reason. I really don't like the fact that we are so susceptible to people seeking revenge. I just wrote to the myLot administrators about this to see if they'd consider, or have considered, dropping the rating and best response features from here. Maybe, if others felt the same way, they should also write to the administrators! If enough members don't like these features, either, and told myLot about it, I'm sure they will eventually disappear! Come on everyone... let's do a 'gang-complaint'!!! I did mine!

25 bad ratings out of 100 puts your point down from what I understand.

Hmmm, I KNOW I've given this person at least 100 plusses and his rating hasn't gone up one number! Maybe there's someone who has given him a few negatives while I was doing this. Don't you feel that's unfair, though? If there HAS to be a rating system, shouldn't the rate rise or fall due to the same number of ratings? I just want it all to disappear!

wELL IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, WHEN THE RATINGS SYSTEM WAS INTRODUCED WE WERE TOLD BY MYLOT THAT NO ONE PERSON COULD EFFECT ANYONES RATINGS BUT INSTEAD IT WAS DOWN TO the over all trend of the ratings given by responders. Ok those self-appointed mylot police one has seen on the site, if acting together may be able to temporarily effect someones ratings, but im sure the system would soon act to correct this too. We were further told that if anyone is negatively rating the same person by stalking them, they will be negatively effected, I would say, trying to manipulate someones rating is futile. The mylot rating system in my opinion has turned in to a negative thing, surely never what was intended blessed be

Hahahahahahahaha! In those commercials, it usually takes 3 then there's a big CRUNCH! Doesn't work that way in myLot! Sigh! I just wrote to the administrators to see if they would, or have, considered dropping these features, the rating and best responses. There's no need for them and they've only caused bad feelings when they drop or inflated egos when they rise in some members! We're here to have fun, right?

Let's find out, one, two three..... There is just no way of knowing... I have tried what you have done and the rating his stayed the same as before.. I hope that it will change very soon.. They must have had some very bad negative ratings, on why it seems to have taken so long for them to get to positive..

I guess so. Winterrose's response said it only takes 25 negatives to bring your number down but I KNOW I tried at least 100 times to bring this rating up and it didn't budge! That's so wrong! IF it only took 100 positives to bring it up one number, and it takes only 25 to bring it down, that would mean that the guy whose number I was trying to raise would have received at least 25 negatives in that same timeframe. From what I've seen, he's not very political or religious here and never seems to offend anyone! I doubt very much that he's had even one negative rating from anyone! I wonder what brings it up, then? Apparently, it looks like positive ratings don't really have much of an impact! I wish they'd just get rid of the ratings. Aren't we supposed to be here for fun and entertainment? Ratings should have nothing to do with it. Sigh! Oh, well. Thanks, anyway, for your answer. I had a chuckle when I first started reading it!

HAHAHAHAH I loved that commercial when I was a kid, although I wasn't a big fan of the tootsie pop (I don't like tootsie rolls). But I tried to find out how much plussing it took to increase someones rating about 6 months ago. I had 2 friends whose ratings had dropped like 2 or 3 numbers in about as many days. Well, I decided that I was going to go through every discussion they were in or had started and just pluss the living daylights out of them. I mean, I musta plussed each of them up a couple hundred times over the span of a week. And their ratings didn't even budge!!! Someone said it takes like 1 minus to go down but a few hundred to go up. I just ignore it because it's so random anyways.

I'm with you Marti, I don't like to give best responses either because it's like saying one is better than the other and/or the ones who want the best response would only say what I want to hear and I don't want that so I don't give them out. I started to but then I stopped because of these very feelings. Now my star rating has gone down and for the life of me, I don't know why or who I offend but apparently I offended someone somewhere. I can't retify the problem if they don't come forward. Oh well, it's just a rating anyway. The only time I'll give a negative rating is when someone does something that I'm totally and completely against such as hurting an animal or a person or something of that nature. That just gets my blood boiling to no end and I will not stand by and let it happen without giving my opinion on it because to keep silent in this case is not golden but a crime on all living things, be it people or animals.

Hi MW when someone answers my discussions I always rae them positive for having the time to answer ot...yet being honest I really don't understand the rating system myself, execept that could it be something to do with how many best responses you get...hugs littleowl
