Do You Buy Christmas & Birthday Presents For Your Pets?

When out shopping yesterday there were Christmas stockings and gifts for dogs and cats, something I have never done, the cats Christmas treat is usually a small amount of turkey and this year we have the dog so he'll probably get a little bit too and of course lots of fuss as his first Christmas. (he'll probably knock the tree over, the cats did that when they were kittens trying to climb it LOL) S=o please share, do you pamper your pets or are you like me and just treat the humans to wrapped pressies. Huggles. Ellie :D

I don't generally get the cats anything specific, well, with 24 of them, its kind of hard.... I got some poofs in a freecycle yesterday and Oliver will get those, he loves his poofs.

Hi ElicBxn, 24 cats, wow, the most I have ever had at any one time was four, I just love them but drew the line at four for space reasons. Oh I love Freecycle and have given and received many things from there, in fact one of the cat beds and the dog bed came from there recently. Lucky Oliver. Thanks for sharing. Huggles. Ellie :D

Oliver is a very lucky cat. He was rescued at 7 days by the roomie's folk's neighbors, fed human formula until we got there. I ran right over to the pet store and got kitten formula. Now he's 3 years old and fat and happy!

I bought my Sherlock 'Nutter Pops for Christmas. He likes the taste of peanut butter, and I guess 'Nutter Pops are a dog's way to gain access to the yummy treat. I think he'll be glad to get some. I do it mainly because I find it fun. I don't think Sherlock cares when he gets a treat, just as long as he gets one. lol

Hi AmbiePam, See you are getting in the Christmas spirit already with your new avatar LOL. Nutter Pops, never seen those but I am sure Sherlock will enjoy. I feel mean now as all these people buy pressies for the animals and I don't. Oh they all love treats at anytime and Zigy gets loads at the moment as still training. The first one he got was sit, it was worthwhile to do as he got a treat, still working on stay, I am sure he's hypo.LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

I do buy an extra tin of meat or a toy on such occasions. I feel that our pet has to celebrate too in his own way even though he does not understand the meaning of it all. © ronaldinu 2008

Yup, Morgana is going to get a kitty climbing tree with a little bed at the bottom for Christmas. I also usually get her a treat too. ~~IN SEARCH OF PEACE WITHIN~~ **AGAINST THE STORMS, I WILL STAND STRONG**

Hi Twoey, Lucky Morgana, I tend to treat the pets to these items through the year when needed so don't worry about Christmas day. Although they will be pampered in other ways. As training Ziggy everyday is treat day for him at present as part of the training. Huggles. Ellie :D

The pet suppliers have sure given many commmercial options for pet owners who have more money than sense. Ican can go either way on this depending on pets needs (ex. chew toy if needed -maybe even catnip treat) pets, my economics etc. Whats important is thought. Better real turkey than a plastic bone. :)

Hi David, Oh chew toys are essential for Ziggy right now as he is teething and I will pick a catnip treat up for the cats if I am getting for him and training treats but on Christmas day I tend to be more practical and give from what we already have at home rather than something special as to them it is just another day but usually more people and leftovers LOL. Hi ellie, well I have only ever brought my dog a doggy stocking one year for Christmas and she was so unimpressed with it that I've never bothered again (I was a little hurt by her reaction..lol) think she just prefers the turkey, so no I don't buy her anything now.

Hi Scorpio, What an ungrateful doggy she was LOL no wonder you have never bought one again and just stick to giving a bit of turkey too. I couldn't believe how many things there were for animals, squeeky Christmas puds, the works. Huggles. Ellie :D

I do buy Ziggy treats but am training at the moment but for teething they suggested a Kong, which is a rubber ball you put dry food in for them to chew and play with but it was expensive so I made my own from a used small tropicana bottle and filled that instead, he loves it and works just as well. I did when I had Reggie....he loved Christmas. Fortunatly I have videos of him opening his presents...or others opening them for him....it was hysterical! He would bark and growl until he got his special treats! Aren't they just wonderful?

Hi Jill, Yes I can imagine you buying for Reggie and that is lovely that you have videos of him opening. Louise above reminded me that I have in the past wrapped tree presents from the cats for the kids in the past but for some reason I don't buy for the pets. Huggles Ellie :D

I used to when I had my dog. I would buy her a stocking or chocs every year, wrap it up for her and then she would open it! She loved it and would then drive me mad all day with the squeeky toy until she had ripped it out.

Yes I do give my pets presents! And even though its not Christmas or their birthdays I give them some treats whenever I come home. It's funny cause even if I'm short of money, I can still afford to buy them something. Even my family they give my pets gifts too. For this Christmas I told them not to buy me gifts anymore cause animal stuffs are expensive enough. Its enough for me that my pets gets the treats. Ciao!

Hi Iskayz, Its lovely that you do buy them treats, I am puppy training at the moment so he does get quite a lot but for some reason as my pets don't know which day it is I never buy these commercial presents designed for them. I hope they all enjoy their pressies this year. Thank you for sharing. Huggles. Ellie :D

Beagel - Dog
We have a beagle at home and I think he is a little bit pampered. It does not have to be Christmas for him to get presents. My cousin and uncle ususally get him something when they happen to pass by a pet store.

Hi ya ellie333 Well we have got gineapigs this year for the first time but I don't think I shall be getting anything special for them for Christmas! My dad has a dog and we shall probably get something for him because my boys absolutely love him but it will only be a small something. I won't be spending anymore than £3 or so on him but it is almost like a child for my dad and his fiance!

Hi Humbug, Oh that is good to get a little pressie for your dad and his partners dog. You can give the guinea an extra carrot each that is why I used to do when I had mine. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie, at on boxing day it is my two's birthday..so yes they always get treats over the chritmas period, only as they are big dogs I tend to try and put the tree where they won't reach it although this year may be a bit difficult as have got rid of a lot of things and will have to risk it being on the floor minus presents lol...Huggles littleowl

Hi littleowl, Woow just noticed you are over 3000 posts, congratulations. Ah well if their birthday is Boxing Day I guess you can spoil them a bit but Ziggy has treats daily whilst I am training so I don't really feel the need to pamper him Christmas Day really. he cats disappear as it is all too loud and noisey for them so they wouldn't be bothered about a pressie much either. Hi Tessah, Wow their very own stockings with their names on now that is spoiling. Mine are part of the family but the cats are ba humbug and stay out of the way of the festivities and Ziggy getting new toys and treats at present cos of his training so I don't really bother at Christmas too much. My mum once bought her two cats a advent calendar but since they have grown into cats they dont get treated to much. When they were kittens they were spoiled at Christmas, one enjoyed running off with the tinsel. lol It is strange seeing gifts for and stockings for pets. My mum never bothered with the stockings as they never played with cats toys, they enjoyed everything else such as the washing basket, plastic bag, string and such!!

Hi Cinderella, Well its Ziggys first Christmas this year but I still won't get him anything. The shop bought stocking for pets are jus so commercial and money making. I treat them all year round now and then and the cats disappear from the noise Christmas Day so even if I did buy them something it wouldn't be appreicated. Mine like your mums prefer non toys to play with, even Ziggy prefers a plastic flower pot to his toys. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Metschica, I looked at the larger picture and couldn't make out whether there were three or four cats as not too sure if one of two at the front by the shoe but great pic, thanks for sharing. My cats will disappear for the day and I don't know quite how the puppy will be yet. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi ellie, Oh yes, now I wonder what your doggie will do whern the tree goes up hehe, yes my twos has a field day with my tree, Thomas usually grab my bauble and try to get it off the tree, most time he gets and play with it tillhe gets fed up with it, I am always shouting at him. I normally buy those cats treats whic Tomas love and Baby is not interested in them, I tried giving little toys but they don't play with that much, I forget they are getting old, so I just get them some treats and new food bowls. Love and Huggles. Tamara

Hi Tamara, I have a giant Yukka tree that I could move and place tree there as Ziggy knows not to go near that areaafter digging out the dirt and being told off a few times for it, either there or on the top of the low table that the TV sits on as that is in a corner and less likely to get knocked over. I bet he'll grab at the tinsel and stuff though as full of mischief. The cats disappear as all too noisey for them and I give odd treats all year round anyway just ba humbug Christmas Day wit the pets. Huggles. Ellie :D
