Guys carrying handbags for girls?

Another topic raised by the radio DJs this morning. It's quite an interesting one. To be honest, I don't really mind to help carry the handbags of my female friends if it's for a short while, especially when they are too occupied with other things. But if it's for long, it's not that good since I have nothing to do with them. They're not my wife or girlfriend. LOL.
What do you think? If you're a guy, are you okay to carry handbags for your female friends/wife/girlfriend? Or if you're a girl, do you ask you guy friends to help you carry?
And at the same time, do you think guys who carry handbags for girls look weird or sissy?

I'm a girl and ummmm I have never seen any guys around hear in SC carrying a womans handbag for his wife or girl friend. I have seen them hold it for them when the woman goes to the little girls room or gettin out of the car but to walk around with it no not yet. If I did and the girl was with him I wouldn't give it a secnd thought but if I saw a guy with a bag and no woman around I think I would go hmmmmm. But then again what can anyone say. Now days girls wear what guys wear and guys wear makeup and earrings and clothes that we wear so guess wouldn't be a big deal if he was carrying a purse to.

For a guy to walk around the SC with a handbag, that is indeed quite weird. But I've seen cross-dressers running around in the SC so I think it's not that bad, right? Hahha.

If I'm with a guy, more of a boyfriend than guy friend, and he told me no, I would not go on another date with him. It shows me he's shallow ands cares too much about what others think.

Actually not much big deal unless the girl is actually very free, and just wants the guy to help carry the bag for no reason.

Oh, I agree. I wouldn't just any guy to cry my purse., even if it was really heavy. Well, if it's heavy it's my fault. LOL I'd just ask if I had a b/f or a date.

I too agree with you. Each of us has our personality and the accessories we carry reflect this. It'd be weird for a girl to let a man carry her handbag. Besides being overwhelmed with too many stuff on hands, I think it's inconsiderate for the girl to ask the guy to do so and also reflects her immaturity. For the guy to carry the bag for the girl as a sign of his love for her is also immature. They don't look sissy but just plain stupid.

I think if she's too busy with things, it's still okay. Just don't walk around the shopping complex with the handbag ALL THE TIME. That WILL be weird.

It's not sissy at all. I find it charming even. It shows that guys have a soft side, even if they seem all macho and stuff. Most of the time I just carry my own, but half the time the guys I'm walking with would offer to help me carry it. I decline but I'd make sure that the gesture is greatly appreciated. It's really cute, and a major plus on the guy .

I know some guys who will not carry no matter what. Hahhaa. I don't really mind to help if the girls are busy with some stuff or are carrying many things. But if they ask me to carry for no reason, it does feel weird unless she's my girlfriend.

Why would it be weird? For me, if the guy acts sissy, then no matter he carries the handbags for girls will always look sissy. I always think helping girls to carry their handbags is a gentle behaviour, it is sweet for me. :-)
My husband does this all the time for me since i'm pregnant. I appreciate that and he really makes me warm. :-)

Even my colleague who was pregnant, i helped her carry stuff because it's quite tiring for her to walk without carrying things. No harm to help. :D

Hahha, I think it's okay to carry for a while actually. I helped my friend carry because she was busy with something and she's married. :D Just be helpful since I got nothing to carry at that moment.

I don't think there is anything weird in it friend. Because nearly all the work are assisted by women, that is women do all works of men. There is nothing wrong if men just help a bit with women's work.

My fiance carries my bag sometimes ! Either when we are at a ball game and in a crowd . That usually is when he will carry it is when we are in a crowd and im scared i will fall with my huge bag , so he will just put it over his neck LOL. Or sometimes when i am out shopping and need free hand . My purse is more like a tote or a bookbag so he dont mind . If it was real girly or had sparkle he might care more !

"i will fall with my huge bag", this is exactly what I've seen with some girls. LOL. They tend to put too many things inside! You can actually knock a person down if you swing that bag hard enough.

Well, as long as he's not trotting around with it or carrying it on his shoulder. Also, if he's kind of holding it carelessly against his chest and kind of hiding it, or holding it like a football. He can't look effeminate. It just wont' do. Unless it's a man purse or he really is just a sissy boy. I wouldn't give a dude my purse unless I was purposely teasing him, I would give him my books first.

I never let hubby carry my bag as i don't want other people to make fun of him.. you know, everytime i see a guy carrying his gf's bag, i feel he's just making an impression.. yay!

well, what's wrong carrying handbags for girls. It's just okay as long as the girl is your friend. It's how you show your being gentleman. You will gain points if you are helping your friend, same way too. If you carrying a lot of things it's not awkward if the Girl will help you carry thru in return. And be sure that you have trust your things to the person who have carried your things.

I'm a girl. I will be appreciated very much if my male friends help me taking my handbags when I am occupied with other things. But I just have one handbag with me, I will carry it by myself. It's common in Shanghai that boys help to take their girl's handbag. I feel a little sissy.

A girl is more attached to her hand bag.She have everything to her needs in it,for emergency times.If she is giving to you to carry,then it seems she is getting close to you.So,dont miss the situation.These are nonverbal communications.

I don't generally ask for help unless I really need it. I won't make a guy carry my things just because it's gentlemanly thing to do. :) I find it weird how some girls give their handbags to their boyfriend when it seems very light anyway! It only strengthens guys' belief that women are inferior!

I think it is quite alright for a guy to carry a girl's handbag. Personally, I would rather have the guy carry a heavier bag or my shopping bags. The guy might not know how to carry my bag properly. Normally, it's also part of an outfit hehe...

Oh ya, some girls carry their handbags based on the colors of their outfits! It's a fashion trend. Kinda defeat the purpose for the guys to carry those fashionable handbags.

My boyfriend doesn't mind if he carries my bag sometimes. There were even times that he get it from me when he feels like I am already tired or when we are in the mall and I need to fit certain clothes that I wanted to buy. Also, he does not complain when I ask him to carry it for a while. I think it just shows that he is such a gentleman and carrying his girlfriend's bag won't make him less of a man. I don't think that it is weird, maybe for others. I will feel weird if my boyfriend carries his own handbag! That's a no-no!

I think its ok, if he is helping the gf to hold ahwile..Its kinda warm and gentle
But i can see that some guys are holding their own bag, really look sissy..perhaps the way the dress up..They though that they are model in magazine..

This phenomenon is very universal.As a girl,I do not ask my boyfriend to carry my handbag,unless it'll be so weight enough that I can't carry it.Also,I don't think the guy who carry handbags for girls look sissy,in opposition,I think they are considerate. However,the scenario that a guy carry a woman's handbag is strange more or less.As a girlfriend,I can't make my boyfriend be looked strange.
