What is the perfect breed of dog to buy a two year old? We want a small dog but one that can grow with my son.

I would say one that is waiting to be rehomed! We got our dog Milo almost 2 months ago, he is a cross breed and 3 years old, we took the girls to meet him and he adores them he has the patience of a saint with my two even when they are hanging off his neck for cuddles! My youngest is 2 and weve had no problems with them learning to live with one another. Id say take your son to a local rehoming centre let him meet some of the dogs (theres always plenty that are between 2-3 years that can still grow up with your son) and see if your son falls in love with any of them. We brought Milo home because my 2 year old daughter refused to move away from his kennel we looked at many but each time she was to be found stood by his kennel talking away I really think it was love at first sight!

the best would be a beagle, lab or retriever, if you want a famly dogs thats atomatically decent with kids. but honestly the dog is as good as the alpha leader of the pack. these dogs breed generally tend to take more woopsies from kids than others if you know what i mean. also any dog from the pound, old or new will due fine. those dogs will do anything to fit in the family, as they know you are saving there life!

The perfect dog, in my opinion, is one who is currently sitting in a shelter waiting for a home. There are many dogs who need a home and will make great companions for kids and adults alike. You can tell the temperment of a young dog or puppy by the way he/she handles the stressful environment of an animal shelter. A high strung dog will be extremely high strung while a good natured dog will stay that way.

i just recently got a jack russell terrier and she is great. her name is daisy, shes still a puppy and she is so hyper. she loves to play with the cat and my little cousin, hes 3. i think that would be a great dog for your son because they don't get that big and there easy to take care of. you can check on craigslist for local people sailing dogs.

Every individual dog is different, no matter the breed. Picking the perfect dog means looking at every aspect of your own living situation. If you don't have a good place for your dog to run around in a large area, don't get any kind of herding dog. Get a dog made for apartment sized living. This includes many small terriers. If you want your dog to grow BIGGER with your son, research some good non-sporting dogs or mutts. I recommend looking at any shelters near you first - as these dogs NEED you more than others, and it's important to help when you can. But right now, if you want a small dog, get a terrier. I wouldn't necessarily recommend a jack russell as they can be overly energetic. OH - and though most dogs bark, there are some breeds that bark MUCH less than others. research them.
