Id like to hear your stories. It looks like I will have to move from my current home, it leaks, is cold and old and I cant pay the rent. I went to see a house yesterday which is in a town, Im not keen on towns, I like living in the coutryside, but its cheaper rent, I wont need to use the car and it is furnished (I dont have much left, Ive sold everything.) It is designed in such a way that I could have the upstairs and I could have a further tennant downstairs, thereby cutting the rent in half. Ive never shared before, can anyone tell me their stories, good or bad about sharing a home?

Hi Ritz100, Many years ago, when we moved from Scotland to London we move into a flat, we were downstaires on the ground foolr and there were a couple with two little kid, we got along well with them, my mother even babysat for them, the were lovely people, the they moved to a bigger place as their family were expanding, then we had another couple moved in and they were not very nice, but they kdept themselves to themselves, and made a lot of noise at night though till my mother and my stepfather bought our own house. Years later I got married and moved into a top floor flat, we were there for five years, until we had new people moved in downstaires and they were a disater, we manged to buy a house out of London and into a lovey country house and we have been here for over 28 years now and never looked back. I do remember that discussion, that was an experience I want to put behind me. Im glad you like where you live, I hope I will too. I have actually found another house, cheaper than this cave and lighter, brighter, warmer and fully furnished. Will keep you all updated as to how the move goes.

Heya, I havent shared a home/house for more than 3 days or enough that it could actually make a difference by getting to know the other tenants habits and values. It was all sleepovers and immersion activities. Of course, living with my parents, a house help, and an employee can already be considered as sharing a home but I dont think that was what you're aiming for. I dont get to see them that much at all since we kinda have our own schedules. I do hope you move in to that new house smoothly. Goodluck and have fun.^_^

Thanks for your encouragement bj, I hope it goes smoothly too. Moving is not something I like doing, although I seem to do it every year or two.

I have shared house in the past when i first started living away from home many years ago. It is ok if you get to share with some good people who want to help keep the house clean and tidy and repect that the noise has to be quite after a certain time at night and in the morning.

Thanks for responding, Im a bit worried as I have never shared. I think I know who I will share with and they are responsible adults. What about the rent payment, ever had problems getting the money?

I've shared some houses when i was attending college in Ilhéus. Students need to do this cause it's hard to live with a few money in another town. My experiences were good cause almost all of my home-mates were good persons and paid the shared bills in time.
