Do you fear going to the Dentist?

I have had a phobia since childhood. When I interviewed mine I put him through the wringer. I told him my fear of needles and how I couldn't even see a needle or hear the word needle without bursting into tears. When he has to do a filling or extract a tooth, he will say....."you need to close your eyes now". Even so, my blood pressure drops and I turn white as a ghost. Do you fear the dentist?

I have to have a sedative to go to the dentist...when I was a child a dentist slapped me after he started working on a cavity without numbing my gums first..I cried because it hurt so much...after that I have been nervous about going to any dentist..even worse..now that I am adult..if this had happen to my child I would have had the dentist's license revoked or suspended..but in the 60's..no one thought that way..just called me a big baby. Makes you wonder how he treated other patients???

The practices of the 60's were evil. My earliest memory of the dentist was being strapped into a chair, a mask put over my face and being told to breath. Freaked me out.

I have seen many people having phobia for dentists. One of my friend have a great phobia for dentists. She used to eat choclates a lot and whenever she used to have a pain in her teeth, she'll never tell anybody at home because they will take her to the dentist. She used to go throught all that pain in her teath but never used to mention it, And when she was 24, her teeth all started breaking into pieces. Then finally she has to visit the dentist and got new artificial teeth installed in her mouth. And that treatment was too terrifying for her. But I dont have such phobia, I go to dentist every 6 months for regular checkup.

I now go to the dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings. I still get a little panic striken. When I first walk through the door is when it hits me. The smell of the office and the noises send my senses off in a tail spin.

I am so fearful. It is nice to know that there is someone else out there like me. Not to be graphic, but I would rather go to the gynecologist weekly for an exam then have to go to the dentist. In fact it was so bad that I did not go for 6 years, which is horrible. My kids need to go and I told my husband he has to take them as I cannot handle it. I had2 bad experiences. One was I had a cavity and he said because it was not bad he was not going to give me any Novocain. It hurt like hell. The 2nd was when I got my wisdom teeth out. I only used Novocain...they did not knock me out. I was in severe pain. Do not do what I did. It is worth the money to be knocked out.

We are cut from the same cloth! I hadn't been to the dentist since my last bad experience when I was a 23. I was 35 when I interviewed this dentist, had just experienced an ulcerated tooth which I let get so bad my face was swelling. Not good. I would rather give birth.

I fear the Dentist bill, is why I never see the Dentist. I do not fear the work, or the drilling. I am fine as long as I request no shots in my mouth. Its the shots that made me so sick. - DNatureofDTrain
